Suggested change to Blood of the Fallen

Suggested change to Blood of the Fallen

It seems like the consensus among experienced players is that the Blood of the Fallen favor item is almost always the best one to take. 800hp right out of the box does seem like a pretty big advantage. Its significant even in the late game. In the early game, it almost seems nonsensical not to take it at least if you think your opponent is going to take it. That characteristic puts the item in danger of being OP.

I would suggest that instead of a straight 800hp bonus, it be changed to a bonus per level. +40hp per level, for example, would make it add up to 800hp at level 20, but wouldn't make it overpowering in the early game.

I may be thinking of the wrong item though. I was thinking of the one that lets you zap a few feet away. But maybe the Favor item is the one that let's you teleport as though you had a scroll?

The Amulet of Teleportation is basically a reusable portal scroll with a 45 second cooldown.  The reference to the AI was regarding the AI's tendency to constantly use teleports to escape combat (generally, a very bad idea as I'm sure you know).

The short-distance teleport item is (if I remember correctly) the Cape of Night which also deals 100 damage to everything around the spot you warp to.  Again, that's just as useful for getting into a fight or chasing a runner (especially with the added damage) as it is for getting away.

Is Heaven's Wrath AoE or something?

Yes, it is.

I take back everything I said. :D I just tried the Crimson Vial and I think it's my new favored favor item.

I wouldn't mind seeing some rebalancing to a lot of the items in the shop and the favor items.

I'm not really gonna give my opinion on what favor items are better or worse, but I think its fair to say that there are some that are considerably less useful. Granted some cost less favor points, but in the long run everyone's gonna have all the favor items anyway. I wish it didn't feel like some of them were just gonna make the other obsolete forever though. I have ten thousand favor points that I haven't even bothered to spend b/c I've found the few items that just seem best to me. I wanna try the other items but it just seems like it would be putting myself at a disadvantage rather than choosing a different play style.

That's a separate issue I have with favor items.

I think they should have made all favor items equally powerful, and equally valuable. Otherwise they're simply an unbalancing element in the game.

No pro game would use them anyhow and certainly not a tourney so they are more a fun factor than anything else.

What?  Why would there be no FP items in a tourney?  I would expect the opposite, that all FP items would be free.

I can't fathom why Favor ITems would be straight up banned either, and not simply made a "Select any item you want; your opponents can do the same", but competitive gaming in general is known for doing... odd things in the name of balance.

That's freaking lame, as everyone taking different Favor Items would add another layer of uniqueness to the gameplay. It would certainly be interesting to see people with the same DG take completely different FI's and play differently as a result.

This. Anything that leads to more complex, interesting builds will be encouraged in a tourney game.

Also, someone caught me listing all the good favor items. My point was not that all favor items are good in their own special way, but rather that BoF is not overpowered compared to all other items. In my opinion, rather than nerf BoF, we should see buffs to the weaker, less used Favor items. Remember that the mark of a good game like demigod, is that no matter who or what you use, you feel like you're OP. Strong yet balanced effects upon your character do just this. So let's focus on buffing and rebalancing, not nerfing.
