Menu lag/Button lag: Anyone else get this?

It happens randomly.  Lately, especially, I've been getting it a lot when logging in.  I don't understand.  Sometimes the menus are seamless, but other times I honestly ctrl-alt-del my game.  I'll just go and do something else 'cuz waiting makes me not feel like playing anymore.  Anyone else experience this or know of a way to eliminate it?

It happened to me and some friends too yesterday, seems to be happening randomly and its EXTREMELY annoying.

I mean...we are talking about 5 minute lag after entering your user and pass....or 3 minute lag to enter the server selection screen...

I've seen this too.  It's got to be connection related because it happened once when someone else on a LAN with me was starting up Demigod too.

We both started the game up and went to log in, both of our games hung after the login prompt.  After 2-3 minutes suddenly they both SIMULTANEOUSLY went through.

It's not entirely the game, it's server side, somewhere.  Hanging the game = not cool.

Funny thing is, I posted this because I was tired of waiting and wanted to vent/hear others' thoughts.  Yet, as soon as I finished making this thread, I booted up DG to find absolutely seamless menu function.  It must happen sporadically during times of server stress because it really is, thankfully, an off/on thing.

I've had similar experiences, primarily when trying to run LAN games.

UI that locks up while waiting for a response from a server is mega fail.  Give us an indication that it's connecting, give us the ability to cancel the connection, do it in a separate thread from the UI interaction.

I strongly suspect that it's related to impulse community stuff, possibly even checking that you're registered to play the game, but given that I might be playing offline or on a disconnected LAN and given that you're going to let me play anyway, you shouldn't make me wait for over a minute if the response is lost or a connection cannot be established.

This. It most commonly locks up with LAN play or even sometimes right when I hit the "Internet" button.

I bet it's SD checking out your license key.

Same problem here, during certain hours. Once after i have clicked "internet", usually less than a minute but sometimes more, then again when i click "logon" at my user id page, then another time when i click pantheon. like 1-2 minutes, until it proceeds. like it waits for a server response on these menus? yeah thats pretty sick. not slick anyhow.

I had to give up playing 2 days ago due to this. There is normally a little delay (i understand when logging in but not the other ones) but sometimes its like the whole window goes not responding. Yesterday was fine again, well back to the slight delay anyway.

The database server has been sporadically misbehaving the past couple of days, so that's the likely cause. I think we've got that issue sorted though so it should be past.

Well, thanks for responding, and good work on solving the current problem...

It's going to happen again though...

Designing an interface that becomes unresponsive while network activity is in progress is a bad idea and a solved problem, GPG and/or SD should really re-think that if you guys ever get time.
