Ship not showing up.

I designed a new ship in the game I was playing.  I saved the ship then exited the game.  When I reloaded the game the ship didn't show up in the shipyard.  I exited the game, and I found the files for the ship I just created.  So, I went back into the game and went to the shipyard from the man menu and it is there, but it doesn't show up in the the game.  Why?  It doesn't require any techs besides the hugh hulls, which I have since I started designing it in the game I was playing.  Is there a log somewhere that would show me what is happening.

Did you load a save from before you made the design? Saves contain all data for a particular game, so designs made in other games or after the save you loaded won't be there; the program only reads in designs from the My Games folders when you start a new game.

Yes the load would be from before I made the save.  I loaded up a game started designing a ship.  Way to many hours later I saved may design and quit the game without saving my game.  I though saving the design was enough.  Then last night when I loaded the game that game would have been before I started the design, so the design isn't there.  The ship is in my games folder though.  It also shows up in the shipyard that you can access through the main menu before you load a game.  I worked on the design some more from there last night and saved it again.  Is there anyway I can make the game see it?  I don't really want to redo it.

When I create a ship design in a game is it saved in the saved game and the My Games folder or does the saved game reference the files in the My Games folder for the ship designs.  If it just references them, then I should be able to copy my design out, load the game, create a temp designed, name it the same as my real design, save everything including the game, exit the game, copy my real design back in, and load my saved game back up.  I would think it would then use my real design.  Assuming it is referencing the files.

Yeah, ship designs are only available from the moment after they're created.  They won't be available in games before the moment of creation.  Also, each campaign is independent, meaning they start only with the information currently  available.  So if you design a new ship in the Shipyard (from the Main Menu) you'll only have that new design available if you start a new game.  Any games running currently won't be updated with the new design because they're isolated from any modifications you've made outside of them.

It's just the way the game was made.  It's like that all over.  For example, I think if you play a campaign with Patch 1.96, or whatever, and then upgrade GalCivII to 2.02, your current game will still run as version 1.96.  Only a new campaign started after the upgrade will run on the new patch.
