ICO Concerns

This game has a pretty small active online player base. If I play for a week straight I probably play with everyone that plays. There was much more before the expansion.

The numbers are going to continue to drop if you don't fix multiplayer matchmaking and the ICO servers. There are annoying lobby bugs right now that dump everyone out of a game if you change player slot types.

Not to mention, ICO still keeps some people from seing games that are available to play, and STILL DROPS PEOPLE ALL THE TIME.

THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE DISCONNECTED FROM ICO MESSAGE TO STILL BE A PROBLEM.

FIX multiplayer or we will stop playing. If I wanted to play this game single player I would have pirated it.

Aside from the fact that the piracy comment was uncalled for: he's right. Unless IC wants to abandon multiplayer altogether something should happen real soon.

As an online multiplayer, something I do find disturbing is my sense that Ironclad and Stardock are no longer concerned about the online multiplayer aspects of this game.  For example, no one ever responded to my thread about whether Entrenchment would ever be fixed so that Enrenchment players could join or at least see regular Sins games in the Join Game menu.

I would like an auto match making system that was promised back in april 08.  Games (5v5) takes too long to figure out and start (not including waiting for 10 people to join the game). Will we ever get a match making system in ico?

I came back to Sins after being away for a few months to find out the online player base has shrunk even more.

What a shame since multiplayer is where Sins really shines.

I really, really hope that with the next launch of an expansion MP will work flawlessly so that people will stick around to play online instead of being divided between different game versions and discouraged because of ICO problems.

I'd also like to see if Alloy is on or off in the game I am about to start playing. It's still a nasty surprise if a losing host quits and the game tries to migrate to someone who can't host.

Being able to rejoin a game after getting dropped would go a long way too.

Don't you realize, those are games for the other version!  (The one you're not playing).

Whip, you keep bringing this up.  Don't you realize that they will most-likely always be incompatible.  There are too many major differences:  trade routes, superweapons, flak/carriers, not to mention starbases.  How would a vanilla player fare against an Entrenchment player that could deploy starbases?  Impossible.

Games under another version of Sins should show on ICO in red. You'd know to relaunch if you'd see an interesting game.

It would of course be much less of a hassle if you could join vanilla games with Entrenchment, with Entrenchment disabled of course.

It seems like I remember it being said that if someone didn't have the miniexpansions that it would disable for all so that a game could be played without much fuss about it.  I was very disappointed that one has to quit one version and load another to check for vanilla games or entrenchment games.  I can only imagine how they will do it for subsequent expansions and all the possible permutations.  It would be nice to have a toggle without having to start the whole thing over.  Matchmaking and ratings would be nice too.  I have to say that it doesn't minidump a fraction of what it used to but some improved lobby stability would be good too.  There are a lot of things that could be done for multiplayer.

Perhaps there would be a way to seamlessly see both types of game and join either by activating or deactivating the expansions.

I just want to say that I really like Sins but Sins handles multiplayer, updates and mods VERY poorly. I don't know technically why that is, but it is very off putting. Many other games have updates but they don't wipeout game saves or require a complete rework of mods and maps. How long has ForgeTools v3 been out and yet if you try to make a mod with the reference data given, you will fail. This hasn't been fixed yet?!? Sure you can work around it if you're REALLY interested but you have to wonder how many new people have tried using the tools as is and gave up when they failed to make a mod work.

Sorry my 2 cents. Sins is great and I know Ironclad has worked very hard on it. That's all I'm going to post on the topic. I'm not interested in an argument about why or why not.

There is a bug where games are not visible even if you are running the same version.

Google is your friend...why is it that people don't get it that by searching for the error-message/problem you can solve at least 99% of all occuring problems or at least find multiple threads concerning the issue?! Anyway, here's what google told me, and since I had the exact same problem I know for sure that it works: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/341480

I'm all for larger maps that could accommodate more players.  I volunteer to make the maps for it.  I bet it wouldn't be hard for them to implement this, perhaps allowing the same icon color to be used twice for games with more than 10 people or creating some two-shaded color options.

Maybe it's time for a new thread in the General Discussion area called "Online Multiplayer Feature Improvement Requests" or some such.
