I am downloading the maps from the sins main website but when I pull the files and drag and drop them into the galaxy folder in program files nothing happens.  Any helP?

Try the following folders instead:

In XP - C:\Documents & Settings\your username\Local Settings\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

In Vista - C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

I don't have an AppData folder in my users file

Read carefully, not "My Documents" but "Documents & Settings"

and show hidden folders just to be sure!

I run XP and just did a search for the for 'Galaxy' and specified the engine to look in hidden folders too.  Once I found it, I just created a desktop shortcut so I wouldn't have to look for it again.

Some (if not most) of the maps that are available from the Sins website may not be updated to work with the most recent version of Sins.  For various reasons, custom map files need small updates when a significant Sins or Entrenchment patch is released.

If you open up the map file in Wordpad or MS Word (they are all just tiny little text files) at the top you'll see "Version Number".  The current and latest version is 3.  You might consider changing earlier version numbers to 3 and see if that helps.

did you make your computer show hidden folder?

however, the best way is to use your "Run" command, just type in the path and it will popup and then go up level up, and then right click sins of a solar empire, and then send to desktop as a shortcut

that is inefficient, and besides you might have gotten the program files "Galaxy" folder, for sins now, it is a either MapDesigner or GalaxyForge

Inefficient?  It only took me a minute to find it.  Just specified to search 'Documents and Settings' and look for hidden folders.  Besides, what difference does it make?  You only have to do it once.

The three and five player random maps that I uploaded recently for 1.16 can be played from the standard Galaxy folder in Program Files\....  Perhaps it is just older maps that you are having problems with?

Okay I'm sorry I'm not really good with computer stuff.  You're going to have to walk me through it better.  Let me just tell you what I'm doing.  I go to the download tab on the main website then go to download maps (not upload).   I find the map I want I click the download link, I click save and then I extract all the files from the folder and then drag the file into the galaxy folder.  But when I go to the game there is nothing new added to my list of maps.
