The intent of the White Council is to band together a community of gamers who are interested to Galciv regularly and to contribute to improving the game while being useful members of this forum.

The pre-requiste for a White Council member is basic commitment to the above purpose. There is no requirement for you to be as clinical a finisher as "I can win in my sleep" Staffa or have the workrate of Sergey the dark horse/black sheep. :)

You might ask as to why you should join the Council where you could be a regular contributor by yourself. The White Council is an opportunity for you to belong to a small community within the big Galciv one. You would also be assured of help or assistance from your fellow Council members as needed.

RayChua, or Ray CSB as you have transmogified into (wow...sort of like Gandalf) DON'T YOU DARE DISBAND THE WHITE COUNCIL. I have no right to implore you to keep in there, but I will anyway. KEEP IN THERE. Surely, you have the willpower to play as Ray CSB and stay as the White Council without playing the Metaverse. Just don't look at the Metaverse! Galciv will be not as much fun if the Council is disbanded fullstop. Please reconsider. :sniff!:

Empires are all about the Metaverse and the Metaverse is not the game. I really felt I made a wrong move setting up an empire when my intention wasn't to play the Metaverse as an Empire. I found it hard not to play the Metaverse both as a player and also as part of an empire. As you said, its too easy to get emotionally involved when you have rankings and such.

Thanks for your kind words about Galciv not being as fun without the Council but surely you jest. It's has been great fun these past few weeks and I will miss the bantering between the empires.

I will certainly still be around the boards, especially when the expansion pack come out.

Actually Ray, I come not to be a vulture like Idle. I cannot believe he dared recruit at your demise like that, but to say congratulations. You did what you set out to do. You built a theme empire as an alternative to the "Join us if you live here. We're a good empire because we're from here and we're going to the top." crowd. That is, what I believe made you a great empire to be remembered and NOT, your quick rise in the metaverse.

I wish to reiterate that being #1 is not what G.R.O.S.S. is about. We had as much fun with everyone at #20, #10, #7 and so on as we do now. G.R.O.S.S. is about being a fun theme based empire. It's fun to be #1, but that's not the overriding concern.

Double post Arggh. But it's time I handed G.R.O.S.S. over to someone else.

Guess I'm now the #1 player still active. It isn't the same knowing the stiff comp all retired. I shall go that way as well. My goals are accomplished, both empire wise and individual. Nothing more to do but let someone else have fun running the show. I'll still pop in as a member of G.R.O.S.S to keep Chris in line. Have I said Chris, how good Misty Hyman looks in her suit lately?

If not for my foolish dream earlier, I would certainly have joined an empire as fun as GROSS.

So Code Monkey would soon take over as the Ultimate Overlord of the Metaverse. Brad will soon be able to look forward to some peace and quiet. :D

Hmmm. Maybe we will get an empire one day whose main purpose is mutual support - helping with strategies and understanding the game and stuff, with a little following of each other's progress. I had thought that was what you guys were working on here at the White Council - I was looking on avariciously. Oh well - perhaps the next formulation...

After reading Staffa's and Sergey's posts, I can say I empathise with what they are going through. I think the Metaverse is a great idea for a single player game and it deserves to be supported. However, I find myself playing the Metaverse much more than playing the game because honestly, who doesn't like to see himself move up the ladder and also to see his own empire do well?As such, I have decided that I will no longer participate in the Metaverse and I will be disbanding the White Council. I hope that by doing so I will still find the interest to play this game when the Expansion pack comes out. Else, I am certain that I would be thoroughly bored before that trying to get the highest possible score.

I feel like I'm reading my own eulogy here :D

I'm not quitting the game or the board. I'm quitting empiring and the Metaverse.

I'm also taking a break from playing the game and have started to read an old fantasy book (inspired by some of the conversations I had in this board). Some of the good ones are just as good in bringing me into the Zone where I lose track of time (the difference being that books don't give me carpal tunnel).

I've also taken a look at progressquest.com as recommended by Brad. Very funny, Brad, very funny.

I recently began reading posts to this forum/metaverse and this was one of the reasons for prompting me to buy this great game. Another reason was to join the White Council. In reading the posts by Ray and the others, I felt that this empire would be perfect for me. I sensed a strong core of values such as brotherhood and honor that appealed to my sense of character. I will sadly miss the White Council and I do hope that the various patches/add-ons will re-inspire the White Council's great leader.

Hearing that you wishing to join the White Council was one of the reasons leading to your purchase of this game really made my day, philopoemen.

On reflection, I think I was too harsh to say that empiring is all about the Metaverse. You and many others have reminded me that there is also the camarederie of fellow gamers and the sharing of Galciv experiences. I do miss that part of empiring.

The metaverse/empire thing is somewhat interesting... My main interest in the council, though, is very like philopoemen's.

Empiring in my view is about way more than the scoreboard. The way I see it, the empire I am in should have a role to play on the Galciv community stage. Not necessarily centered on building a better game or a better gamer, but upon more social interaction with the community. We make our own stories as we go along, a shared experience where each plays his role.

Sure, a lot of people in empires are reclusive players who rarely come to the forum and just throw a score onto the pile every once in a while, but then there are those more socially active people who help make the forum a more colorful place that is alive. They share not only their antics, but their advice, slowly helping in the construction of a better game and gamer by having fun while doing it.

Well guys, after a much needed break, I've decided to give empiring another shot :)

I'll still not participate in the Metaverse until I'm confident that I would no longer be playing the game more for score than for fun. Which would only happen if the scoring changes to focus more on time to completion (unlikely to happen).

To the Council members who have stuck with the Council for the past few days while I went for a short sabbatical, it's good to be back.

I would like to reiterate though that if you are keen to be part of a top ranking empire, there are a few ambitious and fun ones out there which you should consider. Else I welcome your continued participation in the Council.

Ray, I really respected the fact that you wanted to stay out of the Metaverse because it was corrupting your game playing purpose, but I also feel you have much to share in this community. I am glad you are going to stay in a prominent position to help guide people along.

Now, onto that aggressive role-playing empiring stuff of mine: Avast, ye mangey mages, GROSS is going to send you back to yer tower with broken staves after we steal all yer magic items! :D
