Playing for the first time...

So, I'm doing my first round of Demigod, and I'm... Clueless.  It's little things like A) how do I kill things? B) why do I keep dying? C) where's the tutorial that will answer these questions.

Then it's bigger things: I don't have a scroll wheel on my trackball*, how do I zoom out?

I'd be rather grateful to anyone who could help me figure out this game!

*I'm not going to change mice just for one game.

Demigod is related to a genre of games where it is very very hard to explain to someone who is new. It sounds easy on paper, but when you get there - it is a lot of things you have to think about for hit management, creep management and all those things.

I myself come from 3+ years of dota, so I have no problem with Demigod (took 2-3 games to see how the game ticks). But I can see how new people can go "WTF" about this game as they get steam rolled by experienced/beta players.

My only suggestion -> start the game with bots, learn mechanics of movement, killing, special moves, "energy" and "health" management. Learn the basic items (scrolls, boots etc.)Then move onto the multiplayer and see what other people are doing, it is truly the best way to learn. Expect you will die a lot, you will be called a "noob", but just ignore it and you will shine :)

Take a look at this thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/332105

I started writing a little quickstart thing for you, but then I remembered OrleanKnight already did one for the beta, with pictures and all.

You might find some discrepancies since it was written during the beta, but at least most of it will be applicable!

That's not bad advice, and I'm totally willing to play with Bots (I may _never_ play with humans-- that's not how I rolll...).  My questions are more basic ones like "what's this energy thing"? and "where is my life meter?"  And, um, "where's the damned tutorial!" Because Sins had a tutorial that at least helped me know the basics.  I sure would like to know where the buttons are and what they do...

"what's this energy thing"?

Energy in Demigod is like Mana, or using a Sins analogy - antimatter :P It's used for all abilities.

"where is my life meter?"

The green bar to the left of your Demigod's portrait. The blue bar to the right is your energy.

A few other notable buttons:

- Bottom left of the Demigod portrait is the skill tree button. Clicky to see the skill tree and there will be a count of available points in the top left (1 point per level-up).

- Bottom right of the Demigod portrait is the stats button. Clicky to see all the numbers - damage, attack speed, armor, speed, hp/energy, equipped items, etc.

So do you like the game? any sort of review would be nice...

If you're asking me to review the game... I'm not going to. I've put 5 minutes into it, and am on the forums begging for a tutorial.

Sins of a Solar Empire and Galactic Civilizations 2 were equally unfriendly to newcomers, and I would recommend them in the _strongest_ possible terms.  So there you go...

I had hoped or assumed that the single player portion of the game has a tutoral and walks new players through the basics of the game.

But seeing how beta testers did not get to see the single player, I have no idea if this is true or not.

PS: Either case, I'd try the single player first before multiplayer in hopes that this is true.

There's no tutorial at all. Single player is either AI skirmishes, or the Tournament mode.

I recommend to look into the manual which covers the basics(Structures,Shops etc.).
Has been posted in another thread, but i don't think it will hurt if posted once more:

Edit: Sorry for the spelling mistakes - english is not my native language.

Yes, that should help immensely! :)

Alright, I just did my first complete game.  I feel like I'm a {< total newb} now.  Still pretty newb-ish, but at least I know where the buttons are, and what they do.

Basic strategy seems to be: kill things until I level up enough to break towers. Assaulting towers at levels under 10 or so is a quick way to spend 30 seconds figuring out what I did wrong...

It's possible to wreck a tower solo at level 5 or so but unless you are playing a General  I wouldn't recommend it ^^

The Rook has an easier time than most due to a power that deals damage and heals him at the same time.  So if you pick this up early you can attack towers sooner.

The Queen of Thrones also has a power that attacks towers and this helps her take down towers sooner as well (try to use it and then get out of range so you don't take too much damage).

I've done 2 complete rounds now, both as Rook.  Time to try someone new.

How do I _pause_ this game?  It seems that if I'm going single player, I should be able to take a break to deal with.. anything I care to :)

Pressing F10 brings up the menu and pauses the game.

Regulus or Torchbearer also have a bit of an easier time with towers, being ranged. Regulus with his range upgrade skill can outrange towers completely, and Torchbearer can actually freeze them.

You'd think this was true.  Unfortunately, it is not.  I know because I just had to help my sister with her taxes, and alas! The AI mannaged to lose the game while things were "paused"... :(

Isnt there an online verision of the manual that came with the Hardcopy of the game?  For those that got it Digitally?  That should at least explain the object of the game and what the buttons do, and save alot of time from posting it here.  I cant believe theres not PDF version of the manual even.

Its not hard to figure out everything if you play easy or even normal AI offline.  You can kinda sit back and just read over everything and you still wont lose.   A Pause button would have made it easier though, but I guess GPG didnt want to make people reliant on Pausing the game and then be thrown into Online play and have to suddenly think faster.  Pausing has actually hurt me in alot games when I get used to it and it makes it harder to get used to not using it.

Id love to pause the game though now just for seeing captured beautiful moments in the game, and if you could move your camera while paused that'd really be sweet.
