GalCiv 1.04.59 released

The main page's news item goes over the details.

Basically trade goods overall are more powerful but more expensive to make. They are worth more to trade though than previously.

Also, your diplomatic ability is now used much more throughout the game (this will probably be enhanced further as we go on). You can keep out of war more effectively now through the use of gifts and bribes and tribute.

Go Frogboy! I just finished reading the nasty posts on the "Trade Good Nerfing" thread, and here you have already made the first (maybe only required?) step to fixing it! And I haven't even upgraded my game yet!
:) :)

Jeff Stuart -- Rally points (probably same thing) are likely to be in the free expansion pack this summer, if memory serves.

The "rally points" mentioned early on in 1.04 and in the history are background coding by CariElf to facilitate rally points in 1.1, not the front end to support them (based on a previous thread/ clarification).

4) So another thought - why comp not buys wonders/trade goods, but buys buildings for a same cost as wonders? Seems not that efficient, isn't it? So comps can easily get all Wonders/Trade Goods. Exchange trade goods for techs please.
End of quote

6) Why comp just waits something? Demanding tribute? It can just build several fleets (with transports of course). Then he got some planets, it can demand tribute for a peace treaty. Rinse wash repeat several turns later.

I see that some of my 25 days old ideas was implemented. Not that harsh that i suggested but still good.

Well i said here on the forums that diplomacy is simply most abusable thing in TBS even before i started playing GalCiv (and that's why i don't like diplomacy). I was right by the way.

Of course diplomacy is the most abusable thing in TBS. It always will be. But diplomacy is also a very important feature in TBS.

I noticed that I tend to propose more complicated trades than the AI proposes.

If I have lots of cash, I'll buy the AIs resource starbases. The AI never offers to buy my starbases.

I always try to extract every last BC out of a trade. The AI always trades tech-for-tech. It never will put in some extra BC to make it even.

I'll sell the AI ships. I've never seen the AI offer to sell me ships.

I'll trade multiple techs for multiple techs, or possibly some trade goods. The AI doesn't do that.
Speaking of extracting every last BC out of a trade, it'd be nice if the sliders had a button for "automatically maximize per-turn income" or "automatically maximize duration" when I'm proposing a trade. It gets a bid tedious to find the optimal BC to charge for a trade.
The AI can ask me to remove ships from a sector. I can't ask the AI to move its ships.

If the AI is at war and a resource starbase is destroyed, I can use a constructor to grab the starbase. The AI should sometimes demand that I hand over the starbase. Similarly, the AI should sometimes grab a resource when I just destroyed the starbase. Then, I should have the ability to demand the starbase. I should be able to demand that the vacated resource belongs to me. Of course, the AI will look at the military power and relations before making or accepting demands.

I don't agree with the approach of letting the AI claim pseudo-ownership of a vacant resource. You park a starbase there, it's yours no questions asked. For every time I've nabbed a resource previously owned by the AI, I've had AIs nab "my" resources after some other AI blew all my starbases up. The solution, if there even needs to be one, is to make the AI better about guarding key starbases and perhaps trying this tactic themselves.

As for more variety in AI initiated trades, I would be hesitant to encourage this. The AI would need to be making good offers in your eyes, or it would just become an annoyance. "No, I told you a million times: I will not sell that starbase for any price!"

I have a question, which deserves a thread for its own, but it's related to the recent enhancements concerning diplomacy.
My question is really only a question and I'm not complaining about anything. I'm saying this beforehand after I've observed how the nerf-discussion lead to so much tension (and I'm concerned about my ability to put things right in english). Well, here is the question:
Would it be possible to have more diplomatic options (as the AI has; asking for help, threatening because of SBs in a sector, etc.) There were many good suggestions in former threads. I just wonder if these new layers of complex interaction are too difficult to implement. Maybe SD has them already in its plans?
That would rock and would give us much more the feeling of playing against intelligent personalities.
But I underline it one more time: Your support is incredibly great and the game is already a masterpiece!!!

Good job, Brad, nice turn around. Great support!

Work load has kept me from playing much lately, but I hope to get a game going this weekend.

The rallypoints are not in yet, but when I updated to the newest version I thought I saw a file rallypt or something flashing by.
Might be wishfull thinking !

I started a game with 1.04.59 last night (my usual Huge/Tight/Normal settings).

Trade goods do seem quite tradeable now, which is good. A minor was quite demanding with regards to Diplo Translators, but well within acceptable limits.

T'was also good to see the AIs, even minors, more frequently refuse to pay tribute to the other AIs.

Has anyone been able to have a cultural victory happen in 1.0.4.59? I've got a small/tight/intelligent game going where all the sectors are blue and all that's left is the Dregin's home planet. EVERYTHING else has switched over to me. BUT the culture victory keeps saying 12 months left. I've already gone about 5 years and still no win. :D
