Did I miss something... Vasari Mines

Okay, so last night I was messing around, not really playing, with the AI.  I was testing out defenses, and how to use them.  I started laying mines, then found out how to get gravity mines.

What is the difference?

Am I correct, are they not phased out?  Not cloaked in any way?  It seemed every time someone jumped into my grav well, they went right around the mines like they could see them.

The thing about mines, is that even though they are phased out, everyone can still see them. the phased out just makes it so they cannot be attacked.

Gravity mines are different from normal mines in that instead of damaging the enemy, they slow them down and disable their phase drives for a period of time (not sure how much exactly.) As a result, gravity mines arent used very often...in another post, I proposed that a way to make gravity mines more useable in the future could be to make them completely invisible, so the enemy couldnt see them until it was too late, and they were slowed for some time, allowing you to do what you wanted or something.

did they have scouts with them? scouts can spot them.

Also with the Vasari minelayer ship, WHY THE HECK DOES IT HAVE TO MOVE AT A SNAIL'S PACE WHEN IT HAS NO ATTACK? it should at least move at the speed of a Skirmisher instead of Starbase.
