Well, after a year of not playing from real life issues I bought the Ultima Edition last night.

I started playing on small galaxy to get feel for the game at 1 in the morning and next thing I knew it was 3:00 AM!!!! :omg:

 

It was like I blinked my eyes!!!!!

One thing I cannot figure out how to do is to queue ship building on a planet like I do with land structures.

That's because you can't. It's been suggested for GC3, at least-several times, in fact-but there's no real way to do it in GC2. You do however have a setting in the options screen to have a planet build the same ship continually until you tell it to build a different ship (as well as the governors which allow you to have all planets building one specific ship switch to building a different specific ship).
