Filefront - A must read.

for all you modders,

Filefront will no longer be in operation after march the 30th.

this means, you may as well remove the links.

as too how you get your mods out is up in the air. hopefully some people at stardock well find some space for the community mods.

i guess the question is now worth its weight if iconclad/stardock should host sins mods.

There is a spot under the download section where you can upload and download mods from one of Stardock's websites.

https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?libid=71

AFAIK, its not the best. It takes a couple of day to get the upload cleared. But its there.

Yeah i know when I uploaded my map. I took about 4 days for them to approve it. I know they are redoing the wincustomize site so they might redo if we are lucky they will reduce or get rid of the huge wait. Its there till everyone finds some place to upload from.

Yeah Mediafire is good IMHO. Not a problem yet Ive had.

TBH, wincustomize pages are so cludered and I don't like the layout

Except that MediaFire has a size limit of 100MB per file unless you actually pay monthly.  That's big enough for many mods but not for all.

I was looking at Nakido today as an alternative.  Unlimitted storage and filesize, plus they never remove your files do to a lack of activity over a given period of time like most others (filefront included) do.  I don't know if it was just me though, but unfortunately the download speed from Nakido appears to be rather slow.  :(

Greetings Everyone,

I am also perturbed by the recent news from filefront, as all the stuff for 7DS and my other mods where hosted there.  Now, I have begun moving everything over to my private server, which is more secure and way faster anyways.

No herein is my way to help out...

I am offering up the space on my DANMAN GAMES server to any modder who wishes to use it.  The only stipulation is that users need to go through DANMAN GAMES in order to download any mod or file hosted there.

Also, there is a free and a paid service.  The free is just an upload and host, the paid is like having your own site, complete with full customization and unlimited speed and storage.  Pricing is $4.99 per month.  This helps take care of the yearly charge for my private servers.

Any takers, just PM me or shoot over the www.danmangames.com and send me an email.

Anything I can do to help the community, since the community has always helped me.

Mainly because uploads are infrequent and irregular, so it's not something I check on all the time. So if you upload something, notifying me will get it approved much sooner.

The rewrite of WC will only really help with that if we can get the moderator notification of new uploads option we've asked for, but it's not a top priority since the stuff that site intended for (skins/themes) have a much steadier flow so there are people assigned to moderate just those things.

The Farewell message mentions financial problems due to the current economic climate, or some such variation thereof.  Basically, not enough income from adds or other revenue streams for it to be viable.

Isn't Chapter 7 Bankrupcy applies to the bank only? Don't you need physical assets, I mean servers that are few years old could be worth that much...and shouldn't we get more than 7 days of warning? Under the Chapter 7 code, you are required to have 6 months noticed of bankrupies, well I am not an American and definitely not a lawyer so I don't know. The point is that filefont knew it was coming and they didn't do anything about it.

If you noticed they said "suspended", that means its just that they are loosing money and cant keep going like this for long, so before loosing everything they are closing, just they don't know for how long.

Good news about FileFront. It will NOT be closing after all.

"After learning about Ziff Davis Media's plan to suspend FileFront at the end of March, the original founders of FileFront made the decision to buy it back from Ziff Davis Media.  ....."
