How do I make impulse chat work?

I've never been able to get Impulse chat to work, either in Impulse or in Demigod.  What do I need to do to make chat work?

In Demigod shift-tab always brings up an empty box.

In Impulse, chat results results in a window that reads:
"9:34 AM  Attempting connection to host : irc.stardock.com"
"9:34 AM  Connected to server : irc.stardock.com"

And periodically I will be notified that there is a Demigod game to join, but I am unable to chat and I don't see a user list or anything.

You must be behind a firewall that is blocking it.  That's my guess anyway.

What ports need to be open?  I am behind a router/NAT but no firewall so I would think it should work (router blocks incoming but not outgoing).

You'd want to open the ones that use IRC.  Anyone reading this know which port IRC clients use?

I opened the ports necessary for IRC (6660-6669) but both still don't work for me.

I'm always having trouble with IRC and routers/firewalls. The usual port for IRC servers tend to be 6669 (IIRC), but I never seem to be able to get through. Some (most?) servers also have an alternate on port 7000 to connect to, and whenever that is the case, I usually don't have a problem with connecting, once I've updated the port the client uses.

I haven't checked to see if Impulse's built-in IRC chat client has that option (haven't seen any IRC settings in Impulse's Preferences dialog  :'( ). I usually end up installing mIRC or similar, that has that configuration ability as standard.

I opened the default IRC ports but that doesn't appear to have helped with anything.  I still either get an empty window or just myself listed 3 times.  When I get 3 of me chatting "works" but doesn't go to #demigod channel.  /join #demigod returns "Unknown IRC command".

Is this fixed for release?  Is there something I can do with my setup to make it work?

To identify whether it is a Demigod/Reactor issue is to see if the chat inside of Impulse works. If that works then there's a problem with the IRC inside of Impulse Reactor.  However, if the chat inside Impulse (the client) does not work for you, then you have a router/ISP issue.

Chat doesn't work in Impulse either.

irc.stardock.com recieves data on port 6667

irc.stardock.com ip: 38.98.152.155

You could try allowing all traffic to and from that ip can see if that helps.

I have no firewall (windows or otherwise) and my router currently has all traffic on ports 6660-6669 (TCP & UDP) forwarded to my computer.  At the moment, using Impulse and connecting to irc.stardock.com #demigod results in everything looking like it works except I only see "Marvin_" in the channel (yet when I use Mibbit I can see a whole list of people in the channel).  The irc.stardock.com window (on the left) does not appear to have any errors.  It also appears I was put into a channel called #martian, where again I'm alone with "Marvin_".

Found the answer on the Stardock Support forum. Its something Cox Cable is doing to it's subscribers.

Cox DNS giving false info, you can try forcing the right IP in your hosts file. Go to %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc and add the following line to the hosts file:

38.98.152.138   irc.stardock.com
