You should try removing all custom maps from the Galaxy folder. Those "No Pirates" maps as well, as they weren't updated for distribution with the 1.14 changes.

annatar I had done a fresh install into a different windows installation and the no pirate maps installed with 1.14, but they are NOT detected by sins 1.14 as they still have versionnumber 0. the problems is caused by the devs forgetting to update the versionnumber to 3 when the changed the map format for 1.14/beta3.0. if the devs had then the crashes would not have happened.

They didn't "forget" to update it. They plainly said they removed those maps because they were redundant with the no pirates game option. Whatever is on the Impulse side, however, doesn't look like it can handle file deletion between versions as well as addition. I'm assuming IC submitted their build without the pirate maps at all, but the old ones were never removed from the distribution as they should have been.

Anyway.. a fix is a fix, regardless of what caused the problem :P

I have NO custom maps.  I only recently started playing this game.  I've not downloaded any mods or custom maps of any kind.  As long as I remember that once "Large Maps" section is selected that I can't go back, everything works fine.  Clicking it one more time though causes it to give the runtime error.

As a programmer, I'm wondering if it is a simple mistake and if the actual error should read "Subscript out of Range" or "Index out of Bounds".

bazkur, sounds like you have a mapdesigner map from before the update. try the following

you have to remove ALL galaxy files older than 20 feb 2009 in

C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(32 bit) or

C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(64 bit)) AND

C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy (xp) or

C:\users\"user name"\Local Settings\AppData\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(vista/w7 ).

an alternative is to do a windows search of the hard drives for all galaxy files (ie *.galaxy) then click on more advanced options and put a tick in search hidden files & folders BEFORE clicking on search

hope this helps

Sorry, still a no go.  All the galaxy files in there were older that 2/20.  I moved them out to a backup drive and restarted the game.  Now there are no maps listed in the lists and the error still occurs if you jump past Large.

I added the maps back (minus the "no pirate" maps this time), same issue but I have maps this time.

There were no other Galaxy files on my hard drive.

bazkur I did get a similar problem that is why I suggested removing the galaxys from the documents and settings/users galaxy folder.

blacktigeractual 7 deadly sins isONLY FOR SINS 1.05 not later.the only way to get to 1.05 is install from dvd then apply patch5/bonuspack5 unless you have an archive for 1.05.

Fianlly figured it out, You were right about the problem but the issue was that "Local Settings" is just an old junction point that doesn't really exist any longer so I couldn't get into that folder.  There was a galaxy file in:

C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

Oddly enough, it was last modified the day I installed 1.14 which to my knowledge I've never created any.  In any case, I cleared the file from that path and everything is fine now.  That location also has all the old save files that don't work any longer so I took care of those too.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated!
