Problem with Sins of a Solar Empire

Ok, I just installed the new update for SINS,  and the game crashes when i try to start it. A runtime error. My friend did the same. Can anyone help me fix this? And I have Vista, he has Xp, so its not just an operating system glitch probably. The game worked on the version before the new update.

Did you have a mod enabled that started up when Sins booted up?

The recent patch made pretty much all mods incompatible with the newest version

The new version has some compatability issue with maps made in Galaxy Forge.  If you have any custom maps, you'll need to remove them from your galaxy folder.  Probably shouldn't be a sticky, this one threw me for a loop as well until I saw that thread.

no mods at all. we play normal games. the only thing i recently downloaded was a new map. and so that means we can't use the new map cause of htat? hmmm.

only maps that are dated AFTER 20th feb 2009 and for 1.14/entrenchment

I did have the same thing happen to me and it's cause was an OLD mapdesigner map, which I deleted then even map designer worked. to find and remove maps that can offend please follow these instructions

you have to remove ALL galaxy files older than 20 feb 2009 in

(C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(32 bit) or

C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy(64 bit)) AND

C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy (xp) or

C:\users\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy).

an alternative is to do a windows search of the hard drives for all galaxy files (ie *.galaxy) then click on more advanced options and put a tick in search hidden files & folders BEFORE clicking on search

hope this helps

$20 and I make you a program to automatically wipe out maps made prior to 1.14  :dur:

$20 to do that?  Heck, I'd do it for $5.  It's not hard to make such a simple program.

If I wasn't certain there was an official solution on the way, I'd have already done it to convert my own maps and play them.

caydr and darvin3 why don't we each write a program that can convert  older maps to the new map structure & offer them to ironcladgames/stardock so that they will not have this sort of problem again?

or to put it another way why not a compitition to write the most capable/fastest/adaptable galaxy file converter with the devs judging which is the best?
