Why I now hate terror stars...

I no longer like terror stars because I need to build dozens of them, each one of them next to the systems of the major races, and strike all at once with each.

If you make just one, everybody else goes to war with you. If you build several, but not enough for an instant win...all trade routes disappear and my economy goes to hell.

Whether you destroy the system or end of at war with everybody else, either way I lose my trade routes, which makes the rest of the game very difficult.

My lesson that I learned today:

If you're gonna blow up a star system, make sure the neighbors don't mind the big BOOM.

put huge numbers of culture modules on the terror star and watch as the planets switch. that way, fear will keep the locals in line...

I built a Terror Star in a galaxy with string opponents and wasn't attacked. I don't use it for blowing up stars (although I think I should be able to blow up unoccupied stars just to fuel my evil power trip fantasies) - I drive it by an alien system which magically defects without me saying a word. :d

You don't have to destroy enemy stars with Terror Stars. As some others mentioned, you could make them into mobile Party Palaces. However, that's not all.

Try maxing out the military modules and defence modules. They will become much more powerful, as they become mobile-support starbases. If you want to plan a heavy attack in a single area, send in those bases and watch your invincible forces tear the enemy to shreads.

I completed a game last night (Huge, Fool) where I created 3 Terror Stars near the borders of my culture. I loaded them with cultural modules and within five years I had half of the enemy star systems defect. I won with a cultural victory. The Stats showed that I never lost a ship, planet, went to war, or otherwise engaged the enemy. I really wanted to figure out how to blow up a star, but the cultural victory came too quick.

In a large galaxy I fully stacked up the modules on a starbase then made it a terror star I jsut went along and blew up planets but they never joined my empire.

Well, dead people cant join your empire.....

Have to give the fear time to work :)

I like terrorstars like DMF said you just have to showcase it near "enemy" planets and they'll all line up to join you.

Other than that it matches my evil personality, or like the game calls it Demonic.

MUWHAHAHAHAHAHA it's good to be bad

The one game that I had managed to use Terror Star, I certainly had a lot of fun in using them. I mainly used it for culture flipping and didn't blow up any stars.

My only gripe was in how slow they were in getting to a destination. I was playing in a gigantic galaxy and I was on the bottom and my targets were well up and to the left of me. By the time I get anywhere near the destination, the planet has already flipped to my side or is beaten by someone else.

That's exactly how I use them. Although the AI at normal gives me a hard time so maybe it's not the best tactic. I tend to be a builder and try to max out everything in my games (which is another reason why I lose a lot! :) )

I'm wondering if maybe this should be changed in the future? Just seems like an unintended consequence of making terror stars out of space stations... maybe terror stars should be their own creation with only their planet-destroying capabilities and defenses.
