WAR PARTY turns ANGELLICK and fogets there PAIN !?

Cultural takeover of a civilization should only happen at peace time between the two.

Not when thay are at war! Thay just lost friends and family to the enemy thay are not going to consider thair way of life until the war is over.

I have lost many games while my civilization was militarily beating the enemy when my civilization decide to join the lossing enemy in the middle of WAR!

for a military play style this can be faustrating.
To see my WAR PARTY turn ANGELLICK and forget thier PAIN !

Still my favorite game.

I disagree.

The teenagers of your civilization, although know that such products are banned during warfare, still manage to get their hands on Torian blood larva to spice up their sponge cake. Never underestimage the power of the black market fufilling a strong demand.

Besides, just because a war is going on doesn't mean your citizens aren't desiring the Altarian's virtous lifestyle.

I doubt thay would want to rebel and join the race that just killed thier mother or father for the joys of spice cake.

I do agree that culture flipping should stop during war and even prevented from happening until say 5 years after the last war. Culture domination is supposed to be a relatively more peaceful victory path.
This would make the culture and military paths more distinct and deliberate.

Now it is too easy to conquer the least populated planet in a sector and wait for the other enemy planets to culture flip.

I agree. The combination of military and culture path is too strong. The AI is almost helpless against it.

Anyone else remember Jane Fonda during the Vietnam war? She was only one of many. The rights and wrongs aren't relevant, the simple fact is that some people behaved that way.

Perhaps rather than banning culture flipping, war would just lower your influence with races with which you are at war. That of course might be painful for Stardock to do if they have to add per-race culture calculations to everything.

To allow for Jane Fondas, the influence could be affected by the percentage of your Senate that is held by the Peace Party. And, if it is not already, the popularity of the peace party could be affected by the relative military strength of your opponent weighed against who started the war.

Feh. If they already feel like they're part of somebody else's culture, and you declare war on THAT culture, you should expect greater unrest, not less; in fact, it's not unreasonable for them to become so enraged that they defect.

RayChua, as always you understand my PAIN.Thank you for the support. :)

Four ways to win in G.C.

#1 Alliance. Requiers constant cultural development or you may loss your solarsystems.

#2 Tech. Requiers constant cultrual development or you may lose your solarsystems.

#3 war. Requiers constant cultrual development or you may lose your solarsystems.

#4 cultrual. requiers no other constant developement.

I am not expecting many or anyone agreeing with this next statement but;

I feel Cultrual dominace is to strong in the game,I wish it was tone down about 50% so it would not over shadow the other THREE PATHS.

NEXT; Jane Fonda. I live in the U.S.A. many people do not agree with our war policies who live in the U.S.A. but when the U.S.A. gose to WAR it may have its few resisters but it will be a cold day in HELL before we say "gee the people we are at war with have such a nice way of life style lets give our COUNTRY to them and PERHAPS we might get more SPICE CAKE!

MM77 -- The United States is not a collection of planets, each of which happens to be a basically self-sufficient colony multiple LIGHT YEARS away from each other. Gosh, you think they might be more independent-minded?
Twirl, Every county on this planet can be consider "independent-minded" but let do apples to apples.

Earth is at war with another civilization whom own's many other planets. We learn of there wonderful life style. As we tour their cultral fairs on earth thay attack us killing your mother,father,children,1.2 million people and your pet dog spot!

Will YOU forgive them for SPICE CAKE ?
Ah, but they haven't necessarily killed anyone you know. In fact, culture flipping doesn't require invasions at all. And you will likely have nothing personally invested in people on another planet...
My main issue is the ease in which military invasions and culture flipping can be combined to great effect to capture an enemy sector.

I can understand if systems surrender to me out of fear, seeing the complete genocide of their brethen in a nearby system. But not because they fell in love with human talk-shows.

Bless you RayChua, you will always be my hero and I belive your the best all around player.
Twilip,

1. You did not answer the question.

2.I never said Cultral Flipping requiered invasion.

3. As stated at top of thread I do not belive in cultural flipping when you in the middle of a WAR that you are WINNING.

4.What planet are you from ?

Bear in mind that culture-flipping only happens when they're (a) already unhappy, and (b) feel that they're better off with a neighbor. In other words, if you're seeing culture flips, you're not managing them well. As for your harping on "friends and family", as I've noted -- we're dealing with an empire of potentially trillions of people. Just because they're nominally in the same empire doesn't mean they give a damn about the others in their empire. When they flip, they cared more about escaping your unhappy rule.

For a real-world example of people welcoming even a bloody-minded invader, there were a non-trivial number of Ukrainian nationalists who supported the Heer's march across the Ostfront to the end of the war, as they were *very* unhappy with the Moscow regime. There were in fact Russian POWs who formed an anti-Moscow group under Vlasov, thus putting the lie to your notion that sharing the same nation or ethnicity automatically mean that they hate the nation's enemies more than they hate the nation's rulers, even when those enemies were among the most murderous bastards on the planet.

Twirlip,

(a)Your wrong, my civilizations is always happy in majority of 70%.

(b)Your right.BUT not when thay are in WAR with a 70% MORAL will thay want to do a cultural flip.

As for your last paragraph, I hole hartedly agree.
When any country mistreats its people thier moral and
loyalty is at a loss.

If any county that had a 70% moral that was at war and did a cultral flip in the middle of WAR;

Then the problem with turncoats on earth is GREATER then I thought.

MM77 --

Look at the PLANET morale, not just the global. Planet morale can be very, very skewed... I've had global average morale > 90%, and the odd planet morale of <50% -- for instance, when I just colonized a marginal planet with a couple of billion people because the colony ship slider wouldn't let me choose anything less (can easily get a 1% this way, at least briefly), or when it's placed in an opposing sphere of influence and before my own influence takes over. After all, it's the planet that defects, and not your entire civilization.

With regards to entire countries flipping, if memory serves, the concept of Slavic brotherhood greatly eased Bulgaria's not particularly combative transition from the German side to the Russian... whereas closeness with German culture probably helped explain why Austria did not resist annexation or occupation that strenuously compared to their more eastern neighbors. Even without cultural influence, you find situations such as Prussia fighting on either side of the Napoleonic wars depending on when you check. And if Russia were at war with an Islamic nation, I don't think you have to guess on what side the Chechens would be.

Twirlip,

Paragraph #1 Your right but thats not my setup.

I was playing on a "tiny map" rare planets, when I went for a military gambit.I only had one solarsystem and only one planet so I keep them happy 70% of the time.I attacked the only other race left but thay had 3 solar systems and a bunch of star base's. I however had dread's thay only had battleships I was killing them in about a year more I could have invaded and took them out and eat ( SPICE CAKE ) LOL .That was my gambit becuse I wanted a military victory.

But my civilizatoin at 70% moral kicking enemy butt, in the middle of WAR got a little impatiance for SPICE CAKE and turned there coat's for the hope's of eatting it sooner. LOL

I belive strongly in a lot of things you have said. :)

But in GENERAL I don't belive your 70% happy civilization would do a cultural flips in the middle of a war your WINNING. :)

P.S. I have enjoyed talking to you to day Twirlip, Thank You.

:)
