IGN Previews Sins: Entrenchment

With the release coming up very soon, Steve Butts over at IGN put in some time with the Sins of a Solar Empire expansion, Entrenchment, and gives a great in-depth preview.

“Next month Stardock and Ironclad will be releasing the first ever micro-expansion for our 2008 Game of the Year, Sins of a Solar Empire. Titled Entrenchment, the new addition to the Sins franchise brings a host of defense-oriented improvements that should help players beat back the dreaded pirate surge and also put a stop to aggravating siege ship infiltrations. The new defenses come in three different varieties: mines, platform upgrades and, cue the fanfare, star bases. Last week we played through a handful of campaigns to get a feel for how the new additions function for each of the three races in the Sins universe.”

So, the way I read this...that means the actual, full production micro-expansion is gonna be released next week.  So, did the devs decide to fore-go any further testing from an update?  Or do they plan on releasing the update this week and then using the final week to make any last minute adjustments?

WOW! such a quick turn around from still being in beta to going live.  Wasn't expecting this.

 

ps - at the end of the article, it says that the release date for Entrenchment is Feb. 4.  This can't be correct.  Devs--please clear this up so we don't have a bunch of upset users if this date is not met.

Seems odd to be announcing final release when the beta still hasn't really been patched to final release quality.  Are the devs really that confident that they have every bug from the beta fixed, the gameplay tuned, without even testing their fixes?

 

I mean, shouldn't the patches to the beta go through at least some public balance testing and such?

Entrenchment won't be released until we've atleast had time to go through all the feedback on beta 2 and make appropriate changes and fixes. Since beta 2 isn't even out yet...

Yeah i didn't think so either....any hint as to when Beta 2 will be coming out Blair? I thought i heard this week....rumors are doomers...hehe

They also played through a bunch of campaigns...  These guys over at IGN dont seem to be the brightest folk.

Yeah... I was thinking WTF next week when I read it... :)

Saying that, we will hopefully get that beta 2 soon!

Looking forward to it since I haven't booted into Sins for some time now and am feeling that usual craving creeping in :(
