XML Doesn't show up and Galaxy/Particle Forge doesn't work

Hey,

I am new to the SoaSE forums. I am a pretty good modder for GalCiv2 and I just got this game. When I try to open up an XML file to mod the data inside of it, the file isn't in xml. It is in some other code. In addition, when I download the different forges, the files do not come in a zipped file but in one document.

I am running windows vista 64 bit

Has anyone ever had this problem and if so, how did you fix it?

Sins modding isn't XML based. In the forge tools download archive there's a Reference Data folder which contains the text versions of all the relevant and moddable files the game uses - you can just open those with notepad and start modding. :P

Galaxy/Particle forges require .NET 2.0 framework or later for the executables, and I *think* Particle Forge needs to be run out of the root Sins installation folder because it needs some of the game's resources.

Hope this helps a bit.. if you have any more troubles, feel free to post :P

Thanks,

Ill definitely try that.

Since xml is in many games that I play I thought that it would be in this one to.

Also in the forge tools archive is a Documentation folder that has some tutorials, think there's an advanced one for importing XSI models, but the sins_modset.pdf goes over the basics of Sins modding and runs you through some basic things.

Oh yeah and also, there is no "Mods" button in the options screen. Is this a normal thing and you just need to enable something or is this a serious problem.

I had to create my own mods folder, but in the game there was no mods section.

You need to update the game. v1.0 has no mod support, it was added in 1.02 :)
