Help with Support for 1024x600 resolution - Netbooks

I am hoping that someone here can assist me. I've been trying to get Sins running on my Asus N10J netbook. Please don't post if you can't offer constructive input like "don't bother, netbooks aren't meant for gaming". That's not the point. This netbook has an nVidia 9300m GS GPU so can compete with mid level gaming notebooks, can play Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, BF2, just fine. It's a very capable little notebook, very portable.

That being said, it has a 1024x600 screen resolution. Sins requires minimum 1024x768.

Is there any mod or combination of mods that would help to use Sins on this notebook? It seems it is mainly the 2D UI that is set for minimum 1024x768. In the 3D game, it seems to do fine.

Problem is that I can't really navigate through the main UI screens or other 2D screens because the bottom is chopped off.

Even a simple workaround of sorts I'd be happy with.

Thanks for any support.

You can set whatever resolution you want from user.settings file, set the lines "VideoFullScreenWidth" and "VideoFullScreenHeight" to what you want. It was the only way to get my  game to run in 1366*768 resolution. Make sure that "VideoRefreshRate" is set to value your screen supports (60 should be safe).

The user.setting file can be found in "<Windows install drive>:\Users\<username>\AppData\local\Ironclad games\Sins of a Solar Empire\setting" (in Vista, don't remeber the path in XP), you must have hidden files visible to see AppData.

Thanks, I figured out how to edit to set the resolution already.

Problem is that Sins is designed for a minimum 1024x768 resolution mainly due to the 2D user interface. My display is 1024x600, so you can see the issue.

I need the 2D interface to change so that I can successfully navigate through it.

Thanks.

The game cannot adapt the UI smaller than the minimum it is designed for, sorry. The only way to actually scale it smaller properly would be to make a mod of the entire UI for that resolution.

I guess my question is then, if there is a way to have a user editable option, either in-game or in an ini file, that could be edited so that as you Tab through the options, it would display what button or item is selected in a text box?
