Washed out Intro

Has anyone encountered a problem with the introduction viode looking washed out (in a gray-ish colour)?

I've been having this problem occurring with some other games that also use the AVI file format, as well as in WinAmp. I strongly suspect that either the Video Codec is corrupt, or it's configuration is off. However, I don't know how to really correct this since there isn't really a visible "AVI" driver that I can forcefully remove and reinstall.

Well if you can figure out which file extension is a video codec, you could do a search on your computer and then start unregistering them and then re-registering them, starting with any that aren't in the windows system32 folder. If you have the Nimo codec pack for Winamp, I recommend uninstalling it completely because it causes problems with the audio codecs too.

To unregister a file, go to a command prompt and navigate to the directory where the file is located. Then enter

regsvr32 /u filename.ext

Registering a file is the same except without the /u.

I think that the common extension for video codecs is .acm but I'm not sure. If you have any other media player programs other than windows media player, you could just start re-installing them until you can view a avi file normally.

Also, keep in mind that a webcamera or any digital camera that you've installed to your computer may have installed video codecs of their own and you could try messing with those settings as well as re-installing those hardware items.
