I usually use GalaxyForge. You can get it in the download (https://stardock.cachefly.net/GalaxyForge1.1.rar) section and there's a little tutorial here: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/174739

Just play around a bit. If you have any specific questions then, just ask.

There is also a way to code maps as text files, but I haven't tried that out. You get the idea if you open one of the galaxy files in the SoaSE program subfolder "galaxy" with a text editor.

Ciao!

I just tried d/l GalaxyForge, and the *.rar downloads fine, and it appears that it extracted fine to the directory I chose, however, when I try to run GalaxyForge I always get an error message.  Hmmm.  I'll try again.

I just tried it again and got this message:

"Galaxy Forge has encountered an error and needs to close."

I started from scratch, removed the *.rar file, uninstalled my *.rar extracter, d/l winzip, installed winzip, d/l galaxy forge to a new directory, tried running it and got the same error message again.  I noticed that it said on the d/l page here that it requires net 2.0 right?  How can I be sure I'm running net 2.0?

I haven't used Galaxy Forge yet (having problems getting it to run), but it sounds like it's easier to use, point and click type of thing where you can totally customize phase lanes between planets to make pure chokepoints of your choosing.  The in-game map designer isn't as flexible as you seem to only control minor aspects on a random map.  That's my interpretation anyway.

Ah, I forgot, you need Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 for GalaxyForge to work.

http://filehippo.com/search?q=framework

If that doesn't help, I'm out of ideas. Ciao!

Hello people! I made a map with galaxy force, but I can't load it from the game beacuse it ins't appear.

Where did you safe the .galaxy file? You have to move it to the Galaxy folder in the game's directory (default: \Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\ The game will put the map into one of the three categories small, medium or large. No idea how this is determined.

There is also a Galaxy folder in \USERNAME\Applicationdata\Local Settings\Ironcladgames\Sins of a Solar Empire\, maybe you can put it there, too. Then the map probably appears in the game under Custom Maps.

Ciao!

gungrave89,

assuming you have sins 1.17/entrenchment 1.03,  the galaxy forge maps NEED to be placed here for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge.

NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop

NOTE 2 the 'user name' if the above paths is you WINDOWS log in user name, eg Administrator

also the galaxy forge maps only show up in the galaxy forge tab of map types

if you place the .galaxy in the program files galaxy and try to access it in ENTRENCHMENT then you also NEED to alter the galaxy.manifest in the entrenchment folder, then the galaxy WILL appear in the small, medium, large maps based upon the number of players/number of stars & the number of planets

and if a map you want to play was released before 25th feb 2009 then you will also neet the sins map updater from here
http://files.filefront.com/sins+map+updater+v201rar/;13585432;/fileinfo.html

hope this helps
