3D input devices

http://www.3dconnexion.com/

I am downloading the beta as I type and I am wondering...

Will it be possible to us this hardware http://www.3dconnexion.com/ to control the camera and zoom levels.

I don't know how hard that would be to implement but I think that it could be an incredible option for the hardcore gamers out there (like me).

It would definitely be an intuitive input device for controlling the camera and there is no other game out there that has this option.  It could help set this game apart.

I own the space pilot and it works great in 3D modeling programs.

Please discuss.

No games have supported it yet (apart from apparently second life but that doesn't really count), I also think that its unlikely that they will anytime soon as the only people who have these are 3D artists not hardcore gamers.

Its more up to 3dconnexion at the moment, doubt they wouldn't want to not try to get into such a lucrative market. I've had one for ages but I think its more likely that they would release one that was design specifically for games anyway.

I have these devices for my CAD work and a lot of engineers are gamers it would be nice to have support for these

Can't imagine a lot of people have them. Might be nice, though.

As a CAD Monkey I use my space pilot all the time.  I'm just trying to say that it could be a very inexpensive but valuable upgrade for a hardcore gamer.  Its half the price of a decent mouse and provides real time 3D manipulation of a scene.  If this game was the first one to have it implemented it would just be one more selling point.

Cheers

They said the same thing about the PhysX cards. Demigod isn't conducive to that kind of control scheme.

I saw and played breifly with one of these at HP's headquarters last week.  It was trippy man!!  I had never seen anything like that before, but I would be cool for some other games (WiC anyone!!!).  I could see the camera zoom, but unless you can change the sensitivity of the mouse scrolling it would be a pain to play any serious games with it. I just wish I could afford it and the Voodoo/Blackbird 002 systems they had setup at HP.

I almost had to go visit the bathroom for a while  :omg: \o/ :smitten: :erk:

I could imagine 2 of them in a 3d fps...  One for wasd and one for regular mouse......
