AI Cheat

I am getting ready to ground attack a planet and just killed a Battleaxe and Combat Transport. There are no ships left on the planet. Next turn !!! 3 Dreadnaughts are orbiting the planet. No ships approached the planet. I have "follow enemy ships" on. I have the screen shots but do not know how to post a link. Anyone seen this before? 3 ships cannot be built in one turn! >:(

If there are three planets in a star system, they can each purchase a ship in one turn. This issue is quickly surpassing the infinite range AI colony ship bug as the most cited example of alleged AI cheats I think...

Once the AIs get dreadnaught tech most of their planets will be set to produce them, so it doesn't take a lot of money as a rule for them to buy the remaining production for emergencies like the one described. I've seen the AI rush-buy ships to defend a stripped planet many times.

thanks Za H, I forgot to look at the number of colonized planets and there are 3. So it makes sense now.

Yup, one of my favorite tactics if I have a military quality advantage (from a new resource base, or having just killed an enemy base) is to take a force of ships around a sector and kill every ship at every planet. While my vangard does this the CTs move into position to invade. But the AI will go out of its way to rush build ships to put back there...you can actually watch their available money on the dip screen plummet after a couple of turns of this.

If you want to avoid this, all you have to do is have your transports ready to invade the same turn you wipe out their defending ships. If you don't, you will almost always see them purchase ships for defense the next turn (assuming they have the money to do so).

I love this - a way to 'burn off' their extra funds...
