ok there is this one thing that really confuses me in the map maker: the option minimum and maximum distances, I don't understand what they mean or do.

If I understand correctly, the distances referred to are the ones between planets. (Minimum/maximum Phase Lane length.)

Yes, those are for min/max phase lane lengths, but the boundaries are very vague and if they are too small they cause a huge vertical offset which is annoying. If you really want to make a good map that is preset (not randomly generated every time), I suggest downloading the Galaxy Forge. It is fairly simple to use and you can easily customize your galaxy.

What you really need is to download and to learn how to use Galaxy Forge which lets you place the planets individually wherever you want them. Just look for Galaxy Forge in the Downloads area.
