Anyone else not satisfied with the TEC Heavy Cruiser design?

I love the design for almost all the ships, but the heavy cruiser kind of looks like an SUV without the wheels. It is my personal opinion that it should have looked something like this:

Also, something in mind for the expansion, include a destroyer class, something to bridge the rather wide combat gap between the frigates and the heavy cruisers.

Not my favorite, but it's not bad. It's the VW Bug of Sins.

According to the 1.1 changelog:

-Major upgrade to the rendering and texture systems that allows the game to look even better on less powerful machines.
-18 completely redone and touched up meshes.
-Dozens completely redone and touched up mesh textures.
-Lots of new explosion effects and textures.
-A variety of minor 2d texture upgrades and/or replacements.
-New ship shader with colorsample.a swapped with datasample.r (Team and specular have reversed position).
-Non-planetary asteroids now have their own shader. (Note: this shader no longer uses the same texture channel format as the ship shader).
-Damage system changed so that dead entities update as fast as possible so the explosion effects occur at the correct time.
-New explosion system.
-The game doesn't crash if the number of persistent damage effects is close to the max.
-Upped the max number of persistent damage effects.

We'll definately be seeing some changes to how Sins looks from the sounds of this. :)

Honestly, i really don't like the design of the Kodiak cruiser, but the designs you showed us look kinda bad in my opinion, except the destoyer i thought

Most of those changes just appear to be touching up various meshes and textures for more detail. I don't think they're actually gonna make any new ships or completely redesign current ships.

Also, in response to the original poster: Honestly, the only one of those designs that even remotely looks like its from TEC is the Masamune Shirow. None of the rest even look like they belong in Sins. But I do agree that there should be a destroyer-class. Maybe in the expansion pack?

Well I am in agreement about how the ships design is just horribly hideous. I don't think any texture changes will effect the overal aesthetic appeal of the Kodiak heavy cruiser.

yeah the kodiak kinda looks like a space brick. i like how most of the other TEC units look, but for a unit as crucial as the heavy cruiser, the kodiak looks more like a cargo ship. i disagree with the need for a destroyer unit though. i think they would end up just replacing light combat frigates.

I stated this before...yeah ugliest ship in game.
BTW I forget if it is vasari or advent, but their trade ship, if it were to fly backwards would be a better looking heavy cruiser than the kodiak!

I'm reminded of that scene in the B5 movie 'Legend of the Rangers' wherein the Minbari are making fun of the humans for their ugly ship designs.

I love the Kodiak look. It's a box bristling with guns, and fits the flavour of the TEC rapid conversion program wonderfully. It even says in the manual that it was originally designed to blow paths through asteroid fields. You don't exactly need a sleek design for that.

The Kodiak is one of my favorite ships.
It looks like the offspring from a drunken encounter between the "Boys from Sodor" and a Dalek.
Every time I click on one, I expect it to say " EXTERMINATE!! TooT TOOT! "

lol, love the dalek's.

For those that dont know this is a Dalek.

Daleks are basically aliens inside a shell (As seen Above), the aliens only have 2 emotions, Hatred and Rage. They can mass murder without a second thought. Their catch phrase is "EXTERMINATE"

Kodiak sucks.

I think saying that the TEC ship is suppose to look like eyesores is an excuse.

I draw on this analogy

Da Vinci can draw a beautiful painting of an ugly old women. Just because its an old ugly women doesnt mean the painting is bad. In the same way , just because the Kodiak is an old worn out industrial ship refitted for battle, doesnt mean the design has to suck in the way it does.

I would say that its possible to have a great design for the Kodiak that shows it true ugly nature.

Those images you saw were TEMPLATES, Textures will be added and they wont look bad, they will look pretty good!

Before launch, IC did a developer chat on IC. One of the questions was "The Kodiak kinda looks like a garbage truck. What inspired the design?" The answer: "A garbage truck."

Yes, it was an obvious joke :D

I don't know if you're talking to me, but textures won't make a difference on the ships the OP linked to. The basic colors are already there, so its pretty easy to tell what the ships will look like. And I never said they were bad-looking ships. They're very good and whoever modeled them should be very proud of their work. I'm just saying that none of them look like they belong with any of the SoaSE races.

Of course, if you weren't talking to me, then just ignore this. Also, for future reference, PLEASE quote the post you're replying to unless it's the one directly above yours.

that kodiac cruiser looks more like a tank in space that just hovers and fires a single barrel canon. if it was a preindustrial design, it looks nothing like any cargo ship design to me.

i mean maybe it can look a lot more like a uhual backend trailer more like it.

I think the Kodiak needs some improvement. But not as much as almost every single Vasari ship except caps. They have all manner of protrusions and appendages that just give the impression that somebody tried too hard to make them look alien.

Nobody uses light frigates anyway.

Cobalts for the win!
Specifically, 400 of them. That was an interesting war.

The only one of the ships I liked was the Masamune Shirow. Still doesn't fit the Sins style, though.

Try 16 Capital Ships, (Advent) 3 of each and 1 For colonizing!
(This also gives you the Advent Capital Ship Varities achievement)

You just can't pump 'em out like you can Cobalts. I had lost something around 8,000 by the time I won.

Meh, I don't usually mind the designs: they are not from my own mind, so they are new, and anything that is new is good for me(well, that's a flawed logic but just go with it). Besides, all the ships became little symbols after the camera is zoomed out anyway.

Kodiak is lovely for me, b/c every time after I researched the prototype in game, I smile a little bit. I like to think a Kodiak as a chomp chomp...what? Aren't that cute?

I quite like the lok of the kodiac, but I felt it was underpowered. So in my mod all heavy cruisers got a big boost in firepower and health, and now there my favourite ships :)
