A simple protocol to solve quitting

Basically , whenever someone feels the urge to quit...

1) Tell everyone that you have Lost.  "I have Lost"

2) Your teammates should now verify this with either....

a) "Yea...hes right , we might aswell start a new game , no point dragging this"

b) "No...your wrong , we are still winning because playerX on their team is worse off , so overal we winning"

c) "Erm...can we please play a bit longer , we might have a comeback going"

If a) Teams exchange "ggs". The losing team can now quit simultanousely or surrender simultanousely. Stats are irrelevant to me , so aslong as its simultanoues to bring the game to an end , and the winning team has been acknowledged by the losing team , then thats all that matters. Often players with dying teammates will do the whole fight to death , but we all know that we have lives and we dont have hours to spend watching planets die and winning teams are just as happy to end a game if its being concluded.

This way two things happen...

- You dont end up playing against or teaming up with AIs

- You dont get annoying silent quitters who are worse of the lot. Not saying "gg" is like not shaking the opponents hand at the end of a match. Very bad sportmanship.

- And also , there is absolutely no stat loss . I feel its more important that the losing team acknowledges the win to the victorious team . I dont really care if they take a loss or not , the quitter is cheating themselves. If everyone agrees to quit together , then it makes the whole inert AI issue irrelevant too.

I agree. What a lot of people don't realize is that it's possible, in a team game, for you personally to get knocked out but for the rest of your team to still win the game.

I often see this happen when someone gets a crappy starting spot between opponents on one of the random maps. (Solution--learn to play customs and help to develop a custom map underground.) In that case, my advice to players is, "Don't lose your entire fleet and capital ships--just get it out of there and move to our area." Teams might even let a guy have a planet or two in a safe area and maybe even clear it off for the guy.

One of the best games I remember was a game I played back when I was a nooblet where I started out between opponents far away from my allies on the huge random single star map. I was going to get crushed so I ran off with my one capital ship (the Vasari space whale mothership) and was able to take two planets near my allies. I more or less ended up just micromanaging that capital ship and travelling with my allies' fleets and had a great time. We won in a tough game. I'm so glad I didn't quit.

6 of the 9 players in the game ended up in my friendlist (THATS HOW YOU PLAY GAMES)

The game's not over until you build a thousand scouts and attack the enemy's homeworld!!!

--Last week I let my nephew play SINS, now all he does is draw chalk Space Ponies on the sidewalk while whispering "This Means Something"

I lol'd

Yeah in a team game you don't technially lose until every team member does so it is quite possible to rebuild from just one colony frigate. Best matches are fought till the last ship VAE VICTUS style!!

Just to simplify the protocol...

If Player wants to Quit , he says "I have lost"

Teammates will then either do...

a) Agreed - Game ends here. Everyone starts new game . Everyone happy to not play against AIs or get bored bombing planets for hours with nerfed sieges.

b) Disagree , overall team is well - Game continues , player should not quit game.

c) Disagree , chance of comeback - Game continues for 10 minutes then reevaluate.

d) No Answer , rest of teammates dont respond (often noobs). - Winning team can offer player (often only good player on team) sympathy quit. Once player quits, game continues or host ends game.
