Minidump on loading mods, fix please?

Yeah, will it EVER be fixed? .......

When i ran in Vista, i never had that problem, now in XP SP2 i do however. Same version drivers (same version audio drivers too), tried with older and newer, no change.

Core 2 Duo E6600, 4gb ddr2 ram, 8800GTS (old chip version with 512mb ram, recently got the new one with just 320mb ram, no change in sins)

I know i can just copy the mod into the main game folder, but it seems some small things dont work properly then (textures "forgetting" to load, etc)

If you're getting a minidump with a mod but not without, then it's likely an issue with the mod itself.

Then why can more than half of the people trying the mod, play it without a minidump?
It includes hugely popular mods like the latest 7 sins mod, etc. I see maby 1 person having the same problem in 30 pages :P

Could the problem be the fact that my folder structure is swedish and not english?

C:\Documents and Settings\Baleur\Lokala inställningar\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods

As in some files not being correctly read due to the "ä" in the folder path?

7 Deadly Sins 1.3d <-- minidump, yet tons and tons of people succesfully play it..
7 Deadly Sins 2.0 beta <-- minidump
bailknight_graphicmod_v1.3 <-- minidump, yet its probably the most popular mod..
Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1-3a <-- works :o

EDIT: This is the debug log when getting the minidump by activating the 7 Deadly Sins 1.3d mod.. Just a bunch of these. Note how "inställningar" got converted to "inställningar" in the later part.

EDIT 2: And, when removing the "PipelineEffect" folder from any of the minidumping mods, i only get this in the debug log, but the actual mod manages to load up just fine!

Failed to convert '' to an enum value.

So, its probably something with the Pipeline Effects. Could an ironclad dude take a closer look at this please? Thanks :)

I actually had an issue once in Vista where if the path is too long it got messed up and got cut off, so the game also couldn't find the files even though they were there. Try renaming the mod folder to something a few characters long (like 7DS instead of 7 deadly sins 1.3d), and see if you still have problems.

You're running XP, but who knows..

End of quote

It's possible, though it'd be a question for the devs as to whether it's something in the game, or in the DX libraries. If you pass this debug info on to support@ironcladgames.com they should be able to take a look.

Interesting, I'm getting the exact same thing, with the Pipeline Effects folder associated with Bailknights mod, and I have Swedish XP Sp2 as well.

The "GasGiant" stuff is something everyone (afaik?) gets with Sins Plus (which is a part of 7 Deadly Sins)

Just try shortening the mod folder name - I know it sounds weird, but try it. I remember a mod that did a similar thing to me, it might even have been 7DS.

Didnt work shortening the name, i will however send this topic to support@ironcladgames.com

Aww, damn :P Well, good luck then!

Hi
Thanks for bringing that to our attention. It looks like the same Unicode issues we have fixed for 1.1. For now I would rename your windows user name to not have non-ascii characters (like the crazy a).

Kickass, took them 15min to reply :)

Did it work? :P But yeah, the IC guys (and gal) are great.
No, since that "crazy a" isnt my windows username, but rather the Local Settings folder being translated :P
I'll just hope its fixed in 1.1 as he said :)

See, that's the weird thing then.. why would that be the only folder causing the problem? If it was the single character in the path, wouldn't the game not even find the mod to begin with? Or give the error with GameInfo, Textures, etc etc?

Hello,

Have the same problem (am in The Netherlands). Just played Sins (100% achievements; time for mods!) without probs but 7 Deadly Sins gives the ol' Minidump. No strange characters in my name (although I may be one myself :p).

Anyone have any other notions?

Thanks in advance,

Hmm,

There is a checksum there. But since I have not found any DOC (a big ol' 7 Sins should perhaps have an eenie-weenie README.TXT? 8-) ) I have no clue what the checksum *should* be.

804242395

That's the value I got. After that: minidump, exit Sins.

Anyone with a bright idea? I donate one of my level 10 Kols ;) - you can choose: Botty, Snotty or Scotty. Fair warning, Scotty is the most stable but it likes a wee bit of Scotch whiskey.

What patch do you have? As far as I know, 7DS only works with 1.05.

Aha,

Thank you Kit. I was hoping to find this info in the README 8-) - I do indeed run the Beta (1.09).

I'm guessing it's around somewhere (the info)...just have not found it.

Would also rather like to see, in such a possible readme, the specific content of each Mod...had to look quite a bit to find what each one was more or less about.

But that is unrelated. So...any plans for a 1.09 complaint 7 Sins or will the good folk wait until 1.1?

Sinceriously,
Lucas aka Sinful

PS Should you know of mods that *do* work with 1.09, I'd be interested :)

Ironclad hasn't released the 1.09 reference data and not all the files can be converted using the old ConvertData, so until IC releases it mods won't be updated for 1.09. Likely you'll have to wait for 1.1 for all the mod updates.

The only mod that currently works with 1.09 is a mod that tweaks sounds, I believe.

Thank you Annatar; that does make sense.

Well I am a patient rascal if nothing else; wait we shall.

Just have to go do some CoX TF's in the meantime then ;)
