New Icons for Mod Pages

Generic Descriptors

Here are some new Icons that we can use to display what changes are in each mod
on the splash screens advertising the mod. This will help the non-English speaking
players who would like to know what is in each of the mods, but cannot ask very
easily. These are freely available to all modders to use and were created in the hopes
that they would be universally acceptable, which is why they do not contain any 7 Sins
material. There is a large and small icon each on their own layer with transparent
backgrounds for ease of application.

New Ships: These are for totally new ships, or ship textures with new abilities and
weapons. These are not for ships that have been tweaked to do more/less damage.

New Research: 'Nuff Said (for now).

Trade Modification: Any change to the exchange rates of the market.

Rebalancing: Any comprehensive and (hopefully) systematic change to a particular area
of the game to try and improve it. Just making all of one race's ships tougher does not
count, but making all of them equally tougher does (just an example).

New Planets: This covers the addition of new types of Planets, Asteroids, Suns, and Moons
that were not in the Vanilla version.

New Effects: This covers just about everything to do with particles in the game that is not
directly covered by the above icons. As long as it is emitted from a ship it should be
considered FX and not part of the ship. Beams, blasts, and Black Holes baby!

I am hosting them on my new webpage http://fouracescw.googlepages.com/files
in three formats. The first is .tiff only @ 723 KB, the second is .psd only @ 313 KB, and the
third is both (just in case) @ 970 KB. Images can be viewed there to cut down on server
load here. If anyone needs another format just PM me and I will get them to you as soon
as I read the message. They are archived with 7zip which you can get here http://www.7-zip.org/.

If you think that more are needed to differentiate all mods then let me know. It should be
a category that is well defined and is not covered adequately by the other icons. I would
greatly appreciate it if you like the idea to use my icons so that we do not end up with
so many sets that they become pointless. If you feel that you need to alter one or
replace it let me know so that I can update the multi-language reference page with a copy
of your icon.

They are also available from FileFront in my Modding Icon Folder:

Cheers!

Since this site erased an hour of my work when I tried to add
a simple picture to a new post, I am double posting. I do not
want to lose everything above. I am hosting the multi-language
page on my own website WWW Link.
I will try to keep an update image of it for here.

Cool idea. I like having a simple method of mod classification.

Of course, this will probably work best if you get the guys that wrote up the mod compilation stickies to use the images!

An idea for another icon: New Races.

We could do our own translations with a SINS ROSETTA STONE... all we do is put two String-files side-by-side, one with each language (or use internet web-translators to compile multi-language description)

Hast du die Spiele Verstanden???

Wow, how did I miss that one?!? Thanks Blackseraph! Dan's gonna have a fit...

Helioforge, do you mean that they could be keyed to the viewer's browser language?
What I set up was a multi-language description of each icon instead of having to include at least 5 separate languages for each area modified. These are not for the readme, just the splash page on the forums. If we can do this in a better way then I am all for it. So I am not sure if I understand (what you are proposing).

The problem with full description translations via internet web-translators is that they tend to suck if the sentence is more than four words, or contains complexities.
For example, "Hast du die Spiele Verstanden?" translates as "Did you understand the plays?" through Yahoo (Babel Fish) and "Do you have the games minds?" through Google. When it is just a single word they work pretty well, so I expect that they will work with my system (but I cannot read all these languages of course!).

Please hit me with any ideas, suggestions, or comments.

(Of course you couldn't understand it (it was in German), just kidding :) :D )

seriously though, if you wanted to make more labels, you could use those web translators and such (but you already know where they are, and see how useful they really are :) :D

Anyway, since SINS has versions of itself for many languages, then maybe the string files could be matched up as a translator (or you could just load in a different language and get a crash course in that language :) :D

Geld... what is that???
