[advert] Story with bugs, thief and sex inside !!

Hi, I've downloaded GalCiv...ok I admit..not by the honest path of ligth but by the dark one of the emule. The reason is that after having bought MoO3 I really don't want to sell my soul and kill my bank account once more for a game I will not be able to play too...

GC looks nice but it doesn't seems to be the most stable thing on my pc : it crashs after 5-6 turns, during the galaxy creation or just when I click on this button with a dna on

I've winxp+all the latest versions of all things running on my system (GF4+AthlonXP) and I'm trying to know one thing : should I buy Galciv ? For what I've saw the gameplay seems complet but i don't want to spend my money (again) in a game I'll not be able to play more than 1h without problems.

So if you want me to become a loyal customer can you be gentle enougth to reply to some questions
->are my probs known-probs with workaround ?
->did the new patch resolve it in some way ?
->why the price for the dl and for the dl+cd purchase version are the same ? If someone buy just with the dl it cost wayyyyyy less in packaging than shiping a cd :)
->are the grey martian really grey ?

this thread doesn't have any flame/troll purpose (I lied for the "sex" part in the topic but I'm sure you know all how to find it ^^)

well after having tried again and again it seems to me that the game doesn't want me to play more than 2mn or it freezes the screen for ever ^^

too bad for you galciv, I'll not buy you this year :notsure:

maybe your problems stem from having a pirated version perhaps? Patches have been released that address crash/lockup problems some people have related to sound. If you have a purchased copy, you can download those patches.

That's what I'm guessing. Must be the pirate version. Mine crashes every once in a while when I leave the diplomatic screen but that is a known issue and I think the patch fixes it. I'm gonna download the patch tonight when I get home from work. But other than that, I find GalCiv to be extremely stable. Good job guys!

From what I hear the bogus versions out there are pretty much stipped to the bone..perhaps of some components that will make the game regularily crash. The demo will be out soon...I'd wait for that opposed to judging a possibly corrupt pirated copy ;)

Actually I had code in the betas and gold that if the serial # isn't valid I delete the galaxy class (Which crashes the game). The warez serial # floating around can get by the intaller but not GalCiv itself. When we did the bonuspak I updated this to show a cut scene event with the text describing the player going to prison. Then I delete the galaxy class so that they know why it's crashing.

Frogboy, that's a MUCH nicer response than I would have given to someone who had tried to rip me off of something I had put so much blood, sweat, and tears into.

More kudos to you.

Is it just me, or is coming to a developer's site to inform him that you've pirated his software... and then complaining about a "bug"... incomprehensively idiotic?

Well, I pirated the game before buying it(MOO3 syndrome for me too actually :)) and I never had any problems. You don't give the warez guys enough credit.

Qualification: I had the ISO version by Fairlight, not the rip by CLASS. If you have the rip the full version might work fine for you.

All the same, you discuss these things elsewhere. It's not nice to slap a man in the face with his own wallet.

"When we did the bonuspak I updated this to show a cut scene event with the text describing the player going to prison."

That's freakin' hilarious. :D Seriously man, best copy protection scheme ever.

That said, I'd like to see that cutscene, just for a lark. Any chance you could post it somewhere for our amusement?

I don't think so, I'll buy the game if I can play to it, can you see the logic behind it ? I don't want to spend money and discover another "directX unavailable error" like in MoO3, getting stolen one time is enougth so now i've decided to try all the games I want to purchase BEFORE purchase them :p

choice #1 buy the game-many bug-can't play to it
choice #2 dl the game-many bug-can't play to it

the difference is here about 44$...that's not a small amount of money at last for me

and I want to add that I have not seen any demo version out of galciv so it was the only way to test it...

frogboy>thx for your answer but i don't have any cutscene, the game is just freezing :notsure:

choice #3 respect the developer, wait for the demo

Darn right. I'd wait for the demo. And I'd definitly wait for a demo on a Stardock product.

"i've decided to try all the games I want to purchase BEFORE purchase them"

*Sigh*. It's a sad day when there's a facet of society so legally unrestricted that people can openly advocate theft without any fear of reprisal. If you want to break the law, at least have the decency to keep it to yourself.

Yup.. some people think their own twisted logic absolutely justifies theft. Because someone was screwed up with an entirely different company, THIS company has to pay. Great logic.. not.

This is what DEMOS are for. There is a demo coming out. If you can't be patient for the demo, buy the game. Otherwise quit yer yappin'. Nothing infuriates me more than someone who thinks warez is a legal alternative to a demo. It is not.. it is theft, plain and simple.

But yes.. pirating the game and then coming to the forum and discussing this with the dev who made it? Boggles the mind.

Pity his IP is logged.. pity for him that is. LOL
