Hyperspace Exit Effect

Can anyone help me create a hyperspace exit effect similar to the one seen in this video. Check about 1:10 and 1:30 in.

I found a problem with the phase jump exit particle effect for the Babylon5 jump points which I've not puzzled out yet.

Namely the ship arrives within the gravity well of the new system and doesn't do a great deal without movement orders or hostile forces to auto attack. The up shot of all this is how do you make the exit effect appear 1st then have the ship model appear to fly from the center of it as shown in your SG video clip and of course in B5?

Making the particle effect itself isn't too bad, what you need to do first is pick apart all the bits that make up the video effect e.g. lightning, expanding cloud, possibly some small sparks or projectiles too.

Yea..I can actually make the effect, but I can't get the ship to fly through it.

The typical "cheater" method to this sort of thing would be to just create the effect bright enough that you don't see the ship model spawn next to it as close as you can get it.

If you look very carefully at that video clip you'll notice the ships don't come into view untill they're closer to the camera or out of the brightness of the effect. They just make sure that as it's coming into view it follows a trajectory that makes you believe it came out of the effect without you actually seeing it happen. :)

Chewy the ships don't move without orders so you would have a bright particle effect which would eventually fade to show a stationary ship.

You can make the particle effect travel backwards but it doesn't look right when zoomed out a little bit.

Its a ship movement/path finding problem if you ask me, ships entering a new gravwell need to come up short then fly a short distance on the same vector.
