Can't join multiplayer and its not their problem

Hey,

I haven't been able to join any multiplayer games through Ironclad Online (haven't tried through lan... wouldn't know how to start).  Not a single one, even those others have joined.... I am at the university right now because of their hella-fast connection?  Is that the problem?

Searching the forums before posting is looked at as proper net-iquette...

Patch 1.1 will come with some NAT-T (NAT-traversal) changes to SINS netcode so if you can't forward ports (ie. follow the steps in my Networking and SINS guide) then you'll have to wait for patch 1.1.

don't think that is what they are saying tho, they are saying that even if you started a game, that they would not be able to join it..
ps. what is your ic name that you use?

sorry, no, I've talked to you online before, but the op isn't registered as prophet_fire or "prophet fire" I tried to add each as friend to invite them to a game just to see if they happened to be trying to join unjoinable games (there are sure a bunch of them)

My name on ICO is MeFirst (just something that popped in my head trying to log on). I did attempt to search the forums, but its a little difficult to sift through everything. And baka_tare is right... everyone told me it was because the person hosting the game wasn't setup right, but others were able to join and I wasn't able to join (not host). I'll try to look around for a guide, though.

You shouldn't have to forward any ports in order to join a gain. You most likely, however, have to have ports OPEN to join a game. And if the university has certain network traffic blocked, there's not much that can be done (other than bribe the network admin with a cookie).

I have this same problem (except I am through an apartments internet). People like you and I are just going to have to wait until patch 1.1 because there is a certain port that you and I need opened and our network admins refuse to leave it open for security purposes.

Generally using others networks like colleges and unis that actually let you host/play have gross bad security(any college I have been at have had many ports closed and if someone did find a way to play a game MP and they found out , that port would also get closed, I think they do it as they have thosands upon thousands of pounds of specialised software and data on the machines and cant risk a potential hack through certain open ports), as for the apartment network you will really need to speak to who ever adminstrates the network to open a port or if this isnt the issue add a firewall rule or something along those lines. I dont know as much as networking as Monk does but I dont think a patch will sort any port problem your having, that port must be open for anyone in the world to play so I dont think theres to much can be done at the IC end since certain ports being open at the client end are a necessity for any online game. Speak to your admin.

Yesterday I hosted for the first time through a linksys NAT router and didnt have to alter anything thankfully, I was able to also join all games but 1 and that 1 game had 100% open slots and knowone else could join. Im glad I can get on but find out what ports your admin is blocking and also look at monks guide if it has certain ports that need to be opened to get into IC then take them to your admin because if they have a firewall up , most likely only they will be able to unblock the programs and you wont get in, they may have strict rules in the router to filter out certain traffic so you really need to come to an arrangment with them.(frankly theres alot of possibilities why you may not be getting through and thats why its going to be hard for you to get anywhere towards a fix without admin privs) Hope you get it fixed :)

redwingdw28,

Just so you know. Version 1.1 of SINS will incorporate an "optional" (I hope it remains optional, because I won't be using it) netcode function to enable NAT-T (NAT traversal) for SINS. This should in most cases allow SINS to "tunnel" past/through routers/firewalls and no longer require people to forward ports etc. This of course will come as welcome relief for those in apartment buildings/uni-dorms, etc. who cannot forward those ports. I however, will not be using the new "optional" netcode as having something "tunnel" through/past my controls isn't something I allow on any of my networks. :)
