Noobie Question

First of all, I want to apologize in advance for asking a really dumb question but I am stuck.
How the heck do you advance enough to be able to make more than 2 research structures? I have 2 military and 2 civilian but I cannot research anything else because I need 3 research structures to go on.
Even logistics is asking for 3 structures.
My construction frigates can make hangers and stuff like that but the research structure option is gray.
If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm playing against one AI with a small galaxy(10-12 planets)

You need to expand to another planet or asteroid. Then you can build more structures around that planet.

theres a tutorial in the singleplayer menu.. u might wanna take those 4 games (about 10 min each)

they learn you the basics needed 2 play normal games

Each planet has a certain number of "logistics slots", that you can see by mousing over the planet (the numbers appear in the popup planet info).

A research station takes 4 slots. You can do an upgrade to the planet to give it more slots, but eventually you max that out and have to expand to more planets.

You can still build things like defense guns/hangars, because those use up "tactical slots" instead.
