Would you consider a price drop?

Hey Stardock. Would you guys consider a price drop for Galactic Civilizations II Gold Edition?

I just finished my 150 turns for the demo and was starting to get the hang of things. I am teetering, on the brink of buying but the price holds me back. Yes I AM a bit cheap but hear me out:

1.- Older game: don't know about the USA but here in Spain games decrease in price as time goes by. Crysis is already 30 euros from its starting 55 euro tag price.

2.- No physical case, printed manual nor disc: distribution and manufacturing costs are cut that way, no?

3.- No multiplayer:

.... heheheh just kidding. I don't miss this at all.

4.- (MOST IMPORTANT PONIT) Wives are MUCH EASIER TO CONVINCE when something goes on "sale". Picture the scene (this actually happende):

Me, "Wow I loved this demo I think I'm going to get this game"

Wife, "Heh. ANOTHER game?! Don't you have enough of those already"

Me, "But honey, the AI and the customization"

Wife "How much is it"

Me "50 bucks"

Wife. "No way. I want that excercise machine. My butt's too big"

Me "D'oh"

Wife "And you are using it as well your beer gut is getting bigger"

Me "D'OOOOH"

Now instead of saying "50 bucks" if I'd had said "It's on SALE! Only 35 bucks marked down from 50" I'd be colonizing the galaxy as we speek.

Actually... I am colonizing the Galaxy with Sins of a Solar empire. Kudos on that one.

So please, Stardock hear my plea.

Just tell her how the price has dropped since it first came out. Think about it - 40 for Dread Lords, 30 for Dark Avatar, another 30 for Twilight of the Arnor and it would've been a hundred bucks! You can get it all for just sixty - the base game and both expansions.

And if all else fails, just tell her that is the sale price. :CONGRAT:

I tried, believe me.

Expansions, better AI, upgraded graphics mean nothing to her. Its just "a Game". I could get Dread Lords for 30 but I'd be missing out, specially after having played Dark Avatar.

Priiiice droooooooooop? :)

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?

One of the best things for me about the game is it's high degree of replayability. You can get many many hours of enjoyment out of this game. Let's compare that to going to a movie, where you pay $8-$10 and get about 2 hours of entertainment. That's about $4.50/hour of fun. With GalCiv2 you might play around 30 games (or a lot more if you really like it), at about 5 hours/game, depending how you play, which comes to about $0.33/hour of enjoyment. That seems like a much better deal to me. :)

Neither of you would probably use the exercise machine anyway, and tell her that her butt looks just fine. ;)

You live in Spain and complain?

Buy the stuff online and profit from and USD/EUR rate of ~1.55 atm.

I just looked at the "Purchase" Site and its USD 60 for the bundle of the original game+Dark avatar expansion + Twilight or Arnor expansion that should be out soon.
That's a mere EUR 45 for all that (inluding the 17.5% VAT you are going to pay iirc)

If you want the GalCivII feeling for real cheap, get the original game only for USD 20 = EUR 15.

If there's one good thing for a European about the weak USD, then it's the cost of game fees and the like that are priced in USD.
If you think about that the exchange rate once was at 0.85 ...(alright alright, that was 6 years ago, but still...) everything you got to pay in USD looks real cheap these days.

I would think if you start talking to your wife about exchange rates and the like...she will give in after not more than 5 minutes at most.

Purchase the game using Total Gaming Net tokens, then you'll get it at a discount.

I'll back up what KzintiPatriarch said about replay value. Most gamers only get a month or two out of a typical shooter like Crysis or Bioshock, maybe a bit longer if you play through it again at a harder level. But a good strategy game like GalCiv can keep you hooked for years, due to the randomized galaxy "sandbox" mode, the varied alien races (especially with the new TA expansion with unique tech trees), and the different victory conditions.

I've been playing GalCiv2 since it first came out, and I can see myself playing for at least another year, maybe more. I don't play it continuously because there are other games out there, but it's something I keep coming back to, when I want a tough strategy challenge. It's in a rare category of games like Flight Simulator that lives permanently on my hard drive, while other games come and go. Considering that longevity and play value, I think it's worth the cost.

I don't know if that argument will help convince the wife, but maybe it's worth a shot. :)

I've done it. I bought the "Gold" edition. I hadn't taken into account the dollar-euro difference. It comes up to 28 euros. Cheap!

I told my wife it was you guy's fault by the way.

You may be hearing from her soon.

A great tactic lol . Now when you become addicted to the game and don't spend enough time with her you can blame Stardock
