Star Phase Lanes

Map Designer Question

I was wondering if there was any way to disconnect the phase lanes between certain stars in the map editor?  Like, only be able to travel between galaxies using, say, wormholes?  I was only wondering since I saw no option in the galaxy designer and I thought it would make for an interesting game.

All stars are linked automatically by the game engine, there's nothing that specifically defines a connection, as far as anyone's been able to tell, so we can't disconnect stars from each other.

And since you haven't explored the other star...how do you know where the wormholes are..???

A ship can't jump to an unknown wormhole.....

So if I haven't found both ends of a wormhole I can't just jump in and see where it goes? Is that right? I haven't tried it but if that's true then WEAK.

If it's not true, you can simply not connect any phase lanes to the star and rely on wormholes to connect star systems. But if it's true... :(

It's not true, you just need to discover one end of the wormhole.

However, stars don't have phase lane connections to add/remove, it's done automatically and can't be changed.

dont forget that in earlier betas there were star phase lanes, so it must be technically possible. question is how deeply coded this is.

shnitzel5, there are several ways to simulate this mechanic and all have been discussed in depth in other threads......search function is your friend.

Also you may want to take a look at the following two maps.

Please note that if you open them via Galaxy Forge, you will loose all the parameters specifying the inter-system connections.

But if you don't have any phase lanes going to the star then you can't use the star to jump to another star system. So it looks like the answer to the OP is "Yes, in a roundabout manner".

I haven't forgotten, however we've been told that pretty much no code from the early betas is present in the release.. it might be possible with the new tools we'll get, but right now there's no way to unlink them because they aren't linked in any file/area that we have access to :)

ob1_hinobi, u r incorrect...you can still jump to another star system with no access to a star; 1st, via normal phase lanes connecting any one 'planet' in one system to any one 'planet' in another system and 2nd, u can just have wormholes connecting systems. The two maps I linked above demonstrate this quite clearly.

The most effective way to "force" players to use wormholes over existing star connections would have to be a mod, unfortunately. Right now ships have a 24x multiplier for star travel speeds since stars are very far apart. You could set it to 1x and that one minute trip would turn into 24 :P

First off, thank you for the replies. They are greatly appreciated.

Second, thanks for the information that you do not need to know the end of a wormhole location just to jump threw. I was not quite sure how that worked, so thanks for the new info.

Third, it sort of stinks that you can't make no star -> star phase lane maps easily. Thank you to fanandgo for the maps. Unfortunately, my pc isn't really that great for running something that huge, so is their anyway that you can explain how to make the star -> star travel sort of disappear.

I will be looking around on the forums more often  ;p

thanks again for the replies

Ah, I never even considered actual phase lanes connecting planets in different star systems. Ha! I haven't played with the map editor or galaxy forge too much. Thanks for the info and the maps, Fandango.
