AI Surrender

I've played a few games with the AI since the latest patch but none of my opponents have surrendered to me before nuking each and every one of thier planets.  In short, i haven't yet seen a difference in this reguard from the previous patch.

And when playing against multiple AI opponents, if you beat one down to the point where they surrender shouldn't you then immediatly acqurie all of thier remaining planets?

Has anyone out there had experiences with the AI surrendering before they are utterly annialated?

I have had the AI surrender. I have been messing around with modding the game to get the hang of it, and the only thing I could think of that would be simple to start with was making a cheat kind of mod for TEC. So, after building up my huge TEC attack group, I sent them to attack the enemy (One of the 10 hard AIs). Now, my fleet was composed of around over 100 carriers, 50 battleships, and a bunch of some of the others, and a bunch of frigs and cruisers. Right after it steamrolled a small AI attack group, I almost instantly get this victory screen coming up ( I am assuming they surrendered, it did not say if they did or not - but no one else can think of why it would do that, so... )

Personally, I think that feature should be optional, just like Supreme Commander has assassination / annihilation / and all those (Annihilation being where you have to destroy -every- unit, assassination being just the commander, and one other that is just all the buildings). Except in this the option should be AI Surrender: Enable/Disable (Sorry, but I was actually looking forward to watching the fight...)

In 3 games since the patch I have killed about 10 hard AIs and I have only had one surrender, for what reasons I have no idea. The AI had 3 planets left including the homeworld...they're fleet was slaughtered while trying to retreat (big surprise) then about 5 minutes later they surrendered. However, in similar situations I have seen them not surrender, in fact one had no ships, buildings, or other planets. All the AI had left was its homeworld and my fleet of several hundred ships in orbit. Yet, this AI, in a much more obviously futile position did not surrender.

In other words I have no idea how or why they call it quits. It's one of the weirder mechanics implemented in 1.03.

And as far as acquiring their planets when they surrender, that's not possible yet, since the AI can't technically surrender to anyone, and thus there's nothing to dictate who gets the planets. Plus, you have to consider what happens to all the buildings and ships, because if you inherit those along with the planets you gain a huge unfair advantage. So I think it would be best if you didn't get their assets, as the AI is easy to beat once you get rolling anyway.

I've had multiple AIs surrender, but like CoreInsanity says, there is no announcement when the AI surrenders. So unless it's the last one, you aren't likely to notice it immediately (if at all). I only noticed it when going to the pirate screen to post bounties (you can't post bounties on surrendered AI). The odd thing is that the "surrendered" AI were still attacking me, and I still needed to attack and conquer their planets. So it would appear that a surrender is really only useful if it gets you the win.

Yea, honestly problems like this, that are so obviously not working correctly, is making me wonder if the patches even go through a QA department...

The only time ive had consistent surrendering was when I had the massive fleet. I refined that and just made it pure damage with less ship, and more ship HP (On my site). None of the AI have yet to surrender (Well, one might have 2 games ago - and I stress might because it did not tell me if he surrendered or not, as with Bhruic I noticed on the bounty page), despite the fact I owned half the system (Vs 10 unfair aggressor AI) on the last game, and they had yet to win a single battle against my fleets.
