The Enterprise-E

Well first I would like to say that I am not trying to step on any toes here.

While this may be an odd request, I am still hoping some one out there might just feel the same way.  Besides it doesnt hurt to ask right??  =D

I was wondering if someone would be willing to make a Soveriegn model for me to use in game?  I realize that a Trek Mod is in the works and while I have the utmost respect for their team and their project, I also happen to know the calibur of work they usually do & therefore know it will be quite some time before anyone gets to play with it.  However, believe me when I say it will be every bit worth the wait.  But until then........

So, I would like to ask if anyone can provide just the Enterprise E for use in game.  It doesnt have to have trek weapons, as I can just assign some of the in game weapons very easily.  The one thing I have never been good at is modeling & so I have to rely on others for that.  Otherwise I would be happy to do this myself and then offer it to others.  However since I cant, mabey there is someone who wants to do this for me & anyone else who might be feeling the same way.

I cant really explain it, but every since I bought SoaSE, all I can think about is how great it would be if it were Star Trek.  So much so, that recently I cant even seem to play the game.  I know it must sound kinda silly, but Star Trek and SoaSE are such a perfect fit that I cant see past it anymore.  Of course, I am sure I will find a way to trudge through until the mod is closer to completion.  But I also figured there might be a modeler out there with a little extra time and a sympathetic heart for us poor, desperate, starship Captians.... =P

No, in all seriousness folks, this is a pretty straightforward request, If someone can provide a working in game model of the Enterprise E, I believe I can give it some weapons and other stuff.  We could then post it & give people a working Star Trek ship to explore the galaxy with during the long wait for Star Trek Mod.

With all the best intentions,

I can get you the stock Star Trek Armada 2 model of the Sovereign, as i have already played with it ingame, but its going to need a few tweeks before it can get fully integrated... Not to mention, it would need to be rigged with the correct points for weapons and such.

Any version would be nice, I just cant do any aspect of modeling. Wish I could...=P

But if the model your referring to just needs in game weapons and stuff assigned, I know I can do that. But if it requires doing something in a modeling program, I will need help. Hence the forum topic, I didnt think it would hurt to ask at the very least & I can offer some menial sense of help, but in the end I will need assistance in importing and/or creating the model & its weapon hardpoints.

I have asked this same question to Major Stress on the Trek Mod team, but I havent recieved a reply yet. But from their forum topic I gather that they are at least close to having a working model of the Enterprise E in game. I dont know if they would be willing to supply their model or point us in the right direction as they would probably like to just release their work as one complete entity. But perhaps if their is enough intrest, they might release demo's or early beta's for everyone to try, who knows.

But it would be nice to explore the galaxy in the Enterprise while we wait for a full version. =P

That is because Major Stress has a real job that he must travel for, and goes away for a few days or weeks sometimes. I must say No. You cant use the Trekmods Sovereign model. However there are plenty of other Sovereign models out there that you can use. You just need to search around. Try SFC3files, or BCfiles.

If, and when we do get a working ship. We can share the hardpoints, and stuff, but not the model itself. I hope you can understand why. You arent stepping on any toes. If someone can do something better.. hey knock yourself out ;)

Hey no problem, & I appreciate your candor!

So am I to understand that you guys are close to having a working Sovereign in game? I wish I understood modeling so bad some times! lol

If you could help us in any way to mabey get some ships out there (namely the Sovie=D)
that would be so fantastic. I wonder if I could have another go at modeling & see what I can do, what programs are you using if I may ask?

And to all others,

There is no reason why we cant band together and produce ships for us to use in the interum of waiting for major mods. For me its the Sovie, but that doesnt mean that has to be the only ship we work on getting in game.

Lets all put our heads together and see if we cant come up with some stuff!

Aren't there dozens of models from Star Trek: Legacy? Im not into 3D-modelling (yet) but anything you can open in 3Dsmax should be convertable to sins, right?

i am not sure if this apply to models...

lets say you can open X model of X game
do't mean you simply can inport to sins

secondly you got a probleem with 3DS Max only (professionals) will have this program....

3e probleem that all models are copyrighted so simply strip a model X (can) give you probleems especialy for the company

Im a professional, uh? I got 3Dmax from my university for free :-P
I just saw the polygon-cont could be a little of a problem too. Legacy-models are way more detailed. But maybe the old ones from Bridge commander? Don't think that someone will cry after that old stuff... Maybe even the devs will give their blessing.

/me laughs at this naive statement.
Really autodesk do not expect hobby modelers to pay $3000 for their product. There are cheap educational licenses and there are of course other ways to aquire their software.

I personally use Blender which is open source, but trust me when I say there are A LOT of amateurs who use software that costs more than the computer they run it on. Do you think everyone who posts on CGsociety and scifi-meshes using a professional 3d modeling application ALL paid top dollar for it?

This depends entirely on the level of detail and quality you're after. For the purposes of this game it wouldn't take more than a few days for one so inclined to model and texture. Not volunteering because I have enough to do with my own projects.

Also while it's not very useful for the OP's request, this site has a bunch of very high detail Star Trek ship models available for free download, in .blend format. They do however lack a sovereign model.

I downloaded the Voyager model and it consisted of around 500,000 polygons and had a few minor mesh errors. So while these models will render nicely they are useless for game purposes in their present form as they will KILL your computer if you try to render them in real time. Nevertheless it might be a handy resource for trekfags looking to mod-jack yet another space game for their crappy idealistic circle-jerk of a sci-fi franchise :)

Why, that's not true at all. I just made a pretty snazzy model of a sphere that only took me 20 minutes or so. ^^ Get your facts straight sir, before you make yourself look even more foolish >:o(

Ok,

Apart from how "easy" or difficult it is & setting aside the fact that some people dont like Star Trek, (Irashi's post) I am still very confident that if we work together, we can produce not just the Enterprise-E but other ships as well. I would be more than happy to try and work on giving the enterprise the most appropriate in game weapons. Such as the Tech beam for phasers and Phase missles for quantum torpedeos. I believe I can also replace the sounds associated with those weapons to Star Trek weapons sounds.

I will offer what help I can, but if you can produce a working borg shpere in less than an hour Sp3ktr3, I would ask for your help, if I may, in getting an Enterprise-E in game for people to have fun with.

It is only a matter of time before the larger mods and TC's start to emerge giving us a wide variety of ships and story lines. However, quality assurance & as well as any obstacles in attempting to mod the game, make it difficult to gauge how long it will be before their finished.

In the interum, if we focus on one small thing at a time(such as a ship), it should be much easier to complete and release in a relatively short period of time. Which, of course will increase replay ability & interest in the game (not that it needs it), so that when the bigger projects start getting released, there will still be a strong interest and community for the game.

Thats just my opinion anyway, if anyone feels the same way or is willing to help, please feel free to post your thoughts. =P

if it's that easy why not give the OP a few ships ??
he don't care if they are not entirely perfect
