Start Positions

ANyway to set it

is there anyway to set the start positions? It seems whenever i team up with friends and we are on the same team it sticks us in opposite star systems. So usually one of us..usually me has to make a dive for the other guys' system so we can coordinate our attacks better.

Not unless you want to create your own map using the editor.

You have to change the "TeamIndex" values for players/planets....

and this should really be in the "Modding" forum section.

Or you can use forge. I haven't gotten around to playing with that yet though.

Get Galaxy Forge, and look at the beginner guide pegged to the top of this forum. It's pretty easy to use for basic stuff. Not all the functionality is there, but it's pretty decent if you just want to make a simple map with close together starting points, or a very loose scenario (you and your friend vs. 3 or 4 aliens or something).

The regular maps need to be updated with set starting positions for teams.

I'm having difficulty trying to start in a specific place. NewPlayer0 isn't enough. It should be that by default but it always puts me in start position 3. Even if I'm first in the game lobby selection.

Hi there,

As long as you only want two teams, it should be doable based on the feedback I got to a similar post I did awhile back:

https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/post.aspx?postid=301031

I could never get it to work cleanly with three teams but at the end of the day I could set up the galaxy the way I wanted and just restart the game a few times until I got placed in the right slot by chance.

This problem appears regardless of it you use a in-game map or custom map with GalaxyForge:

I know this doesn't actually help, but it may same you from a few of the headaches I got from banging my head against this particular wall...

yeah i've tried setting the team index to 1 for both people in the one galazy and 2 in the other galazy tehn set the guys who want to team on team one vs comp on team 2 but it still splits us up into different star systems i will look at the above linked posts and let you know if this solved the problem.

Yeah, IC keeps saying they want us to make up our own stories but if your story is that you came into a system with an ally you lose because apparently your ally forgot to make that turn...
