No Limits Mod

Well I created my first mod I call it the No Limits Mod.

The Features for the No Limits Mod are:

1. All planet types have had there Tactical and Civilian Logistics Slots increased by 2 times the original amount.

2. Ships do not use supply anymore. You can build as many as you would like. However for capships you still need to train crews.

3. Ships do not require Crystals to build anymore.

4. All ships prices are 2x higher plus 10x the amount of Crystals needed to build the ship (Exp: If the ship required 30 crystals then 300 credits were added to the price of the ship). This helps balance a little because of the no supply and no crystals needed. So all you need now is Credits and Metal to build your fleet.

5. Carriers now have 2 slots to build fighters and or bombers.

6. Defense Hangers now have 4 slots to build fighters and or bombers.

The reason for this mod is to try and get the feel I had from Masters of Orion where you could build thousands of ships. However I don’t think anyone will get close to the amount of ships that were build in Masters of Orion. I felt limited on what I could do so I changed it to my liking.

If you would like to try it out I'll get the file uploaded so you can download it.  Total size of the mod zipped is 700kb.

If you are interested in this mod post here.

This is a first run so if you find things not quit balanced post your opinions here.

Exactly. That, and/or when graphics cards are running at 2ghz...

3 and 4 contradict each other? :NOTSURE:

Interesting mod, however I too have serious doubts it'll run stable for longer than 2-3 hours before the AI builds soo many frigs/cruisers it just ctd's or locks up entirely.

If you want bigger battles maybe just increase the fleet size by 3x normal? (although that will still eat into the processing power severely.)

My bad.

I didn't get any coffee this morning, my reading skills are lacking as a result.

This reminds me of how i play Civilization...non stop building of military units.
I think the only way this could work is if each unit created a drain on your economy. Without any maintenance costs, and unlimited units, it just seems silly.

i smell the remains of glassed planets in a race of total annihilation that moo1 and 2 used to be

were is the moo2 mod ?!

the increased price includes 2 years of maintenance - no refund if that ship gets destroyed...

Costs of Ships

Frigates 400-1640

Cruisers 1200-1850

Capships 8500

You won’t be building a large fleet unless you have the time to or you conquer a lot of planets the same can be said for the AI. I have over 7 hours in so far and everything is running fine. I have had 2 battles with around 100 per side but that is the 2 biggest boys on the block. I play a 39 Star 386 planet 36 player huge map I made. So far my PC is running like a charm and everything is set to max GFX 2xAA

PC specs

Windows XP Home SP2
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 2.17GHz CPU
2 Gigs of Ram
ATI HD2600Pro 512MB 8XAGP

lol, is that your default response to my posts? That's the second post of mine you've rsponded with that comment to, either come up with something original or quit trying to troll; seriously, my 4 year old nephew is more original than you.

QFT means quoted for truth. It means you quote someone in order to give them support, but have nothing more to say because they said it all.

I have to agree, without limits on shipbuilding, AI will be the undoing of any game longer than a couple of hours. Especially with no crystals cost.

I have a fairly powerful rig, and it slows down noticeably on maps with max AI opponents and ~160+ planets in vanilla, imagine what will happen if you pull out all stoppers on them...

What I did for a personal mod is changed the 2nd half of the research supply levels into about 50x the normal cost and doubled the supply total per level with loosing the tax. The problem in sins overall is the time it takes to move your fleet place to place. So battles become a bottleneck before you can use more resources.

I was tired of all the multi-leveled research subjects, so I just made them all single-level. Which cost the same as the two, and gave the final upgrade amount.

It doesn't make anything cheaper/faster, aside from now you only have to click it once, if you've got the resources.

In other circles it's also known to mean "Quit effing trying" and used by people to singnify a "oh come on, quit trying to be a poser" response in order to provoke a flame war.

My sincere apologies to Tjorriemorrie if I indeed misinterpedted his response as an attempt to troll when it was intended as agreement to my post. :NOTSURE:

But back OT: out of curoisity how well did this mod wind up working out? anyone know?

I tried to do something like this(unsuccessfully (:( ), except capital ships were weaker and they were the cost of their frigate counter parts.
Sounds like a good mod, where do you download it from???

I like to play on maps with lots of stars with few planets on them, and the fleet caps do seem rather limiting on those maps, even with the big fleets option. When you pretty much have to build a fleet for every star you own, your forces can get thinned out quickly. In a way that is not so bad because it forces you to think about tactics and strategy more, but at the end of the day this is a game with only one victory option(the military one) and it gets difficult to defend your systems and build an attack force that is strong enough to take on the other players. I think it might be overkill to have ships use no supply though. I'm thinking of maybe changing the values of the last fleet techs, maybe double them or something.....same with the cap ship crews.

Have you played games with this mod yet? If so, how does your computer hold up?

the thing is that the AI isnt some idiot, or spammer, he doesnt waste cash on ships, he builds ships off of how much he needs, i made a mod that makes everything X10 (still pending on wincustomize) and the AI doesnt spam structures, or resource asteroids ( :p ) he builds it very slowly then stops until he needs units, and he doesnt upgrade the supply until he caps it out, he does how ever, spam research >_> hell attack me with all the advanced stuff, early on.

Lol I modded mine to have 0 cost for any ship and no supply :D
