Drengin are just absurd!

Drengin are just absurd!

I realize that they are the developers favorite but this is really not fun. Every game (nearly) they are dominant in every category very quickly. As soon as they meet me they attack. I am as strong or better but if i drop a tiny bit, here they come. and this is with all the other civs virtually a flat line in mil strength. I was using hammers to hold 'em of but guess what, NERFED. So far, all my tools have been nerfed (PQ15, starbases/culture, hammers) but overall I still admire the level of support.

P.S. All our posts here and to the metaverse just lead to more nerfing. Yes, I know all about modding, not updating, etc. but would like to go with the flow if it did not lead to losses in most of my games. I have over 50 pages of notes from the various forums so knowledge is not the problem--guess I am. I just cannot find a balance of difficulty, size, strategy. I am now going to set all civs to neutral and drop to sub-normal on large and see if I can have sonme fun.

I think I might try something tonight for fun. I think all the races other than the Drengin will be lawfully good (including me).. and the Drengin will be their normal self of course. I'll crank them a couple intelligence clicks above everyone else. Want to see how an everyone vs. the Drengin battle turns out. LOL

This thread seems to proove that the game is very different each time you play.
To this point I have been culturally conquered by the Drengin, had a war that lasted over 50 years with the Yor (that game was pretty close, and if I had not had built a terror star at the very last second, I think I would have been assimilated into their collective). That would also have happened with the new battle hammers, since they were my last line of defense, orbiting around my planets.
In my current game, jsut after the initial rush, the Torians have asked me for 1500bc (+/-). Which I hadn't, and my best hip was a defender (found in an asteroid). They are crushing me like a bug.
Except in the end, when I'm wining (the end game tends to be quite similar -- but that hasn't happened nearly enough for me to get bored ;) ), all my games have been quite unique.

In my latest game, I have managed to play most of the civilizations off of each other long enough to grab a commanding military lead. The Yor made the fatal mistake of attacking me, and now I am crushing them like the bugs they would be if they weren't cybernetic beings. I am having to keep my eye on the Arceans, though; those guys are a pain in the neck. The Drengin aren't doing well this time around.

Speaking of the Drengin, though, does anyone know how to pronounce the word? Is it with a soft "g" as in "engine," (my preference) or with a hard "g" as in "Ghost gags gross, goggle-eyed ungulant?"

I can honestly say I've yet to see a powerful Drengin empire in any of my games... contrary to many posts I've seen here. Thus far I'd rank the major races in my games like this:

#1 - Torians - These guys have always gotten large empires and been a real threat, especially culturally.

#2 and #3 (tie) Yor and Altarians - These guys have been the militant races in my games, with really big and powerful fleets.

#4 Drengin - They seem to do OK for awhile, but peter out somewhere around Battleship technology. The Fundamentalists have gutted them in a few games.

#5 Arceans - Haven't seen an improvement since they were supposedly updated, but these guys have been cursed with crappy start positions most of my games. They're the only race I know I can usually boss around, even early on... they might have more ships but I'll have a stronger economy and/or more tech.

The Drengin normally start out well in my games then go to war with me for a while which lets the Alterians and the torians streak ahead. The yor and the aceans are normally getting beaten up by the time I've delt with the drengins to I can either help them or steal their planets while they are weak. In my last game though the alterians took over the drengins starting planet before they could build a single ship, with no red menace to hinder me I was able to get a good lead in all areas and keep it throughout the game.

Just to mention, sorry I haven't been posting to the metaverse, but I've been getting bored with games for one reason or another. Maybe bad idea on my part but so be it.

Playing 1.03 recently and haven't seen anything different. Might just be that the torin on high levels just kick so much @ss that the rest just get dropped from the running.

Just on a side note, I saw a three-way alliance in my last game between the Torians, the Altarians, and the Arceans. First time in the 23 or so games I've played that I've ever seen three races all allied. Made it a bit messy to start a fight with any of them. :)

In all my games the Drengin seem to dominate early, especially since I play a turtle strategy. Later on its usually the Arceans or the Altarians that rise to power (and usually they ally themselves with some other race.) In none of my games have the Torians ever been significant. But this game has infinite possibilities!!! Wow this game is really cool. I am gonna start a game right now hehe. :)

A three-way alliance? Sounds like the AI is heading to a political victory...

In most of my games, the Drengin are the powerhouse race (even when Pure Good), the Torians and Arcaens tend to get short-shafted on starting locations and one of them surrenders (or is conquered) "early", Yor start strong but peter-out after several years, Altarians have spread-out empires and do well until the Drengin attack them (I usually help the Altarians, since I usually do a lot of trade with them).

The Torians were neutral in that game, so that might have helped bridge the gap between the Altarians and the Arceans. I don't know it was the Torians that initiated the alliance, but I suspect it because I see the Torians and Altarians allied all the time, whereas this is the first time I've ever seen the Arceans allied with anyone.

Just lost another game to the Drengin, I was expanding as I thought fairly quickly. I would send colony ships to worlds that were supposedly good for me using stellar cart. But the Drengin took all the worlds along the edge of my space, and as I could not range past them I sent constructors to build bases. Only to find that the Drengin had already expanded outward. Half the galaxcy was taken by them! They were waring on everyone!

What happens when they kill one of the minor races? do they get their tech? because the Drengin tech line was lower than mine and they had battleships while I was just starting to build War hammers. Also are the bases nerfed or what? I had a base with all the hitpoint up grades and they took it out with one shot!

I've played a couple of games when I've been about to lose and just not finished it. But when I get owned, I get owned by the Drengin. Oh, except last game. My economy was so out the roof that they wouldn't even attack me (I -like- the Universalist party, it gives you so many yellow stars!). Even though my military was really poor, I just took them over once I got my battle hammers. They walked the plank like nobody's business.
