Metaverse scores

Metaverse scores

Was there something done to the Metaverse scoring? I just noticed that several scores that had been submitted to the Metaverse vanished. My score of 25k and 2 other 35k+ scores have also disappeared.

Please, Brad or anyone who knows for sure about the light mods in the library, because the Metaverse just don't accept my last game ( a long one and my best so far ) which was the first to use an additional mod, and the only one: the smuggling tech - made ( and approved? ) by you. I've tried several times yesterday and it doesn't show, and I never tweaked my account. I never cheat. Aside the smuggling tech downloaded from the library, I can't think of any other reason why I can't submit that one to the contrary of the first submissions ( easily made ). I've e-mailed my saved game to your address bwardell@stardock.com.

Cataleptic, the game was won on 2198. 20 years victory, that could be the reason for the obscene score.

Brad, I've have ended the that game again and the current scoring mechanism scored the game at 4916 instead of 30k, is it alright if I resubmit that game since the original game score was deleted?

That wouldn't help my overall scoring but I like to keep a record of my games.

Slitherin, already taken into account with the latest update. It now decreases your score based upon when you could have won by that method versus when you actually did. Further, they're going to run the archived metaverse games through this new algorithm and retroactively adjust scores.

WARNING - LONG POST

Completed my Maso Gigantic 1.035 game that I mentioned earlier. Some stats as follows as reference for those interested in the new scoring system.

Tech Victory, 6214 points, 1 trillion pop, 20 game years.

AAR-
Had a reasonably good start with about 50+ systems colonised. Tried to stave off wars but was unsucessful. I was still building starfighters and corvettes while they finished researching battleship tech.

First war started with Dregs. Used the Maxed-out attack/defense starbase trap rather successfully while the Dregs slammed themselves against the defended planet bait. Researched capital ship tech and built up ships/B.transports. Managed to seize a couple of Dreg systems after they exhausted significant numbers of capital ships. Situation looked promising but unfortunately rest of AIs decided to join in the fun.

To cut a long story short, it was impossible to sustain an attack by multiple races and I soon realised that my only hope lay with a tech victory. I bought expensive peace by surrending planets but that only bought me a short respite. The Arceans became the dominant force and soon redeclared war.

In a last bid to survive, I converged all my ships (40-50 dreads/rangers/avatars onto my war starbase which was converted to a terror star. I also set all planets to build AMMs as now my capital ships are hopelessly outclassed by equivalent ships (my avatar would lose to a dread). A few AMMs can still take out an enemy ship.
I must have built and used 100 of them.

Tried the bait tactic again as before but to my surprise, Arceans avoided the heavily guarded planet and went for my terror star which luckily was also heavily guarded.

On the tech front, traded tech/trade goods/systems with other AIs to cut short route to final techs (ie bought Near Omniscience from Dreg).

On a lucky note, Altarians (who were ranked last) surrended their 10 systems to me. All their ships had been destroyed by an attacking Torian force of 20+ Overlords.

On the down side, "Friendly" Dregs decided to stab me in the back and declared war. Last scene of battle saw a Dreg Excalibur (292 attack IIRC, 1000+ hps) get destroyed by a few of my remaining ships.

Reached Final Frontier with One Terror Star, 7 Dreads and 13 B.Transports remaining out of my entire armada.

Managed the "cheapo" win. I was 5th on the final scoreboard compared to other AIs.

Tremendously fun experience, got to love those gigantic epic games :)

Looks like a good game.

Stardock still need to decide on that 'cheapo' win. I hope they don't remove it, as it's a sweet victory when the AI's are all more powerful than you. Should probably have reduced your score a bit though. At the moment you got the score as if you were the highest tech race. I assume you were not.

Good victory though!

Paul.

Except for population (2nd), popularity (2nd) and influence (4th), I was last in all other categories.

Torians and Arceans reached Final Frontier before me.

Personally, I do not mind being deemed to have lost that game once they research Final Frontier. However, I would like it if the scoring would reflect the efforts put into the game despite the loss.

You didn't lose!

You WON!

Achieving a tech victory with other more powerful empires is a good and well deserved victory. The question is whether it should recieve as good a score as if you won by tech victory before the other races did. Your final score should indeed represent your achievement.

At the moment I'd like to see a 10-20% reduction in final score for each other race to have achieved final frontier.

Paul.

Or possibly just let the AI win by tech victory same as we can (as has been frequently suggested and polled). If the game just ended when they hit the final frontier, then you'd still have a score, but it'd be naturally reduced by virtue of you losing. Should effectively take care of score balancing... ;)

99 Jul, Military. Gigantic, Tight Clusters, Abudant. Federalists, +30% Econ, +5% PQ, +10% Pop Growth. 5 Incredible Pure Evil AI, 1.03.054

Standalone respawn, 52 planets 15+. 2 Minor civs. Only 1 traded with me (it was with one planet), other gives only ~8 bc/tech. I get Gravity Accelerators, Galactic Stock Exchange and Aphrodisiac. Then build on all already colonized planets Entertainment Network, Soil Enrichment, Habitat improvement, Fusion, Manuf, somethere also Banking Center. At war with Yor, but they are on the other side of the galaxy. Paying for peace to Altarians. Get some resources (Econ first), 2 starbases 40% production in best sector. Colonized rest of 15+ planets. Total of 2 Econ, 2 Research, 2 Military starbases, researching all resouce mining techs. War with Dreign started. Some Dreadnought battles in frontier. I'm researching to Stadium (low morale on most planets). Dreign destroyed several my starbases, i destroyed theirs. I paid 3000(?) to Yor for a war with Dreign - Dreign asked for peace, i get all their resources in frontier (constructors in key positions) - to a total of 4 Econ, 3 Research, 4 Military and 1 Morale. Altarians get second former Dreign Morale resource :(. At war with Acreans, again with Dreigns and with Yor. Started building of production starbases in all sectors (plan - 3 sb 120% prodution each, may be not that efficient, but i fear loading times in lategame). Then build some trade techs and starbases - only like 10, and they give 1/3 of income. Yor and Acreans destoroyed 1/2 ech other fleets. I'm on a way to Terraformer.Started building ship catapult. All planets building overlords once - i become 1st in military, ship catapult range 100+ >> going to Dreign, several Influence resources. Ship catapult range 200, culture bases all other the galaxy. GG GL HF

I think that starting position means too much, at least for my builder style - i trying to win with better economy, if it is possible.

In 1.03.054 this was a MScore of 28.000 in 99Jul (~5000 pop, ~20000 income (taxes 60%)), in 2202Jul it was 40.000 (colonzed all 10+PQ planets + rush buy Entertainment Network + Stadium + Soil Enrichment, min poulaion on a planet is 4Bil, total 7996.9 Bil pop, 43.558 tax income (taxes 60%)). (I wanted a score no less than others had.) It's possible to get more.

In 1.03A.057 MScore is 7.000 and 11.000 respectively.

So, your script that must give score to the time than player wins not working. Also, i think that 7.000 is too low score for this win. I get 7420 Mpoints with Military. Gigantic, Tight Clusters, Abudant. Federalists, +15% PQ, +10% Pop Growth. 5 Incredible Pure Evil AI, 1.02.042 (94Jan Military) and it was easier.

And one more question - if i can't get a score of 17914+ for 1 game with new scoring system (so i don't lose anything because i can't post a score of 7420), can i get my first score somehow? I have a save file, but, as i said, game crashes then i press 'done' button in score screen.

Well, you are making a strategic game, isn't it? So think in a strategic scale. Don't you think that someone of previous 4x game designers suspected such things like a 1-city challenge etc. possible? Why you are making same mistake? ;p
P.S. Quake I in 1 hour (replay can be found in the internet), SMAX transcendent win in less then 100 turns (Apolyton SMAC forum).

Frogboy, could you clarify the part that Ellestar quotes? Are you saying that any submissions of Masochistic / Gigantic galaxy are presumed suspect?

I'm going to win my current Masochistic/Gigantic game, with the latest patch and I don't want to submit the score if it's going to cause me trouble. Needless to say I'm winning fairly.

It's still possible to win on Masochistic/Gigantic, there just isn't as much room for error!

Is there any plan to divide up the metaverse scores so that there are lists for each size galaxy level? That would help make some of the smaller scale games more relevant to the players...

Darn, I was hoping that some of the deleted scores would boost my own pathetic Metaverse score. Checked today and my score is actually lower than before - ranked 1040th. Oh well, I suck but at least I'm still having fun playing the game. :)

Your scores look good to me, based on the size map you are playing. With the current system map size is king when it comes to your scoring potential.
On one hand, fair enough, on the other I really think there should be separate table for each map size. A lot of people out there have things like friends and a need for sleep that really limit the number of gigantic games they can play :)

MScore don't equal to score sent to metaverse?
Well, still it's 3734 in 99Jul and 5646 in 202Jul.

Well it seems that you checked that bug. Now i can send a score from 94Jan Military - 2754 points.
