I was not being dishonorable! (aka we need a new diplomatic option)

I was playing all Intelligent, Tiny map, Abundant planets...
I rushed to trade goods to develop some early economic dominance and tried to pursue a peacekeeper role in the galaxy. In particular, I wanted to protect the Alexians & Carinoids because they each had only one planet and were especially susceptible to extinction.
Whenever wars would flare up, I would go to the warring parties and request that they make peace. Sometimes a free tech or two would do the trick, other times they'd tell me to talk to the other race.
Regardless, my requests for the AI to "make peace with..." were often rebuffed, forcing me to dismantle their invading fleets and force peace upon them. This was always done without capturing planets. For the weak Alterians, just going to war with them and knocking out a freighter was enough to force to them give peace to a 3rd party.
And I had plenty of incentive to take planets since a mid-game precursor event has raised the class of most of the planets in the game by 14. Except my home sector, of course, which was just out of reach. Basically, my early game lead was built on 4-5 "class 20" planets and I was fighting against three AIs each with several planets over class 30. Oftentimes I would force one to the bargaining table ("make peace with...") just as another one was starting a new war.
Anyway, at the end of the game they all refused peace insisting that, unlike me, they would not attack, make peace and then re-arm for another attack. I understand that this is a common player tactic, so I think it's cool that the AI will look for it but... that's not what I was doing at all. The Torians called me 'dishonorable' even though they were the ones initiating wars against my trade partners. The ONLY planets I had captured during the game belonged to the Arceans, and that was only after an event said that they were going to take over the universe if not destroyed.
Basically, I was entering wars in a defensive manner and never invading planets. I've thought about how this could be handled diplomatically, and it seems that adding an "Avert War" item to the diplomacy screen would work.
Basically, I could offer them "Avert War" for "Make Peace with the Carinoids" (or whatever) and the AI would understand that refusing the offer would lead to war with me.
I understand that this might seem no different than simply demanding something from the AI, but I was so dominant militarily at times that the AI would automatically give me peace if I went to war with them.
Thoughts?
