What is the logic behind Phoenix ships?

For the cost of 200 production points and 6 BC/turn maintenance, these ships have a hard time beating a single Corvette, let alone 4 of them for the same production cost and less maintenance. Given that they are slower than Corvettes as well, it's hard to use them on attack if the new tactical algorithms are put in place, let alone the AI using them against human players. Is there any chance we will see an improvement to this ship class? Do you think it is necessary?

Has anyone built a ship stat mod for themselves that they would be willing to post? It looks like some simple modifications to att/def/hp/range/speed would fix a lot of this..

You can modify the ship stats for Phoenix in the "../data/shippak2.ship" file with a simple text editor (e.g. Notepad in Windows). Without a clear policy regarding metaverse submissions, this puts you in that gray area of potentially cheating though. I would much rather someone from Stardock fix the ship stats, not just for balance reasons, but so we can understand what the purpose of this ship is supposed to be too.

I had a Hero that was 38at 98D and 342 HP, on a large map. I remember one of the races declaring war on me and it was in the middle of their empire at the time, they tossed everything they had at it, must of destroyed 30 dreadnoughts on it before they asked for peace and the thing was down to like 180 HP, I could take their entire nation with one ship LOL. They really do need to tone back the numbers of anomalies in the larger galaxies.

Are you sure they are being created? Several times I have reloaded a game only to spot a bunch I have missed, some of them are very hard to spot as the icon blends with the background. The icons seem to be random, just try it park your hero next to one, save and reload and you may see the icon change.

Well, actually i've seen my Overlords owned by Rangers. The key is they have to get the initial attack and have time to repair. But yeah, Rangers with 65+ attack and Avatars with 100+ belonging to some Righteous Arceans owned my whole fleet last night. So much waste.

SirOscar, I assure you I would have seen that anomoly that popped up right next to Sol had it been there the whole time :)

Ok Popup I belive you, I was just not sure if they were being created or if my 40+ year old eyes were having trouble seeing them in the first place :)

I dont think this ship, or the Ranger, is worth it at all on a medium map.

I spend a lot of attention to Hero in the early game. But I'm disappointed with StarHawks... what's the point?

AA :notsure:

Actually, I play on larger maps, and StarHawk tech usually comes available just about the time I'm ready to build some more survey-capable craft to more quickly grab all the anomolies.

I'm going to need them in my current game, as I've located 9 resources and none of them are econ resources, so every little econ boost will help. On the other hand, 5 of them are military resources, so I'm gonna go on a rampage at some point just for the fun of it :) If only I had taken the War Party.

I noticed it fairly early on, as the entire map would be revealed, and I'd send the Hero home...but about two turns later, it'd leave its course to pick up another anomaly that it didn't go after in previous turns. This happened often enought that it became rather clear to me that new anomalies were appearing.
