I find this a tad disturbing

"The sanderons are a very liberal, but well meaning society"

So is this saying Liberals are not well meaning? I don't see conservitive members of society reaching out to help their fellow man ;p They're more interesting in hoping they'll help themself

In short... CONSERVITISM SUCKS!!

Yes.Liberals are not well meaning.And I would say thats a "conservative estimation".Ha. Ha. Ha.Or perhaps the current brand of Liberals. :D :) :( (:( :)

Hmmm... conservitism? Not heard of that particular movement. Perhaps you meant to say "conservatism" or "conservatives"? Then again, I suppose liberals can be well-meaning, but not well-spoken... ;p

Seriously, Verenti, I doubt that any offense was intended - nor do I suspect that the developers have some hidden political agenda. But... you know conservatives... trying to help themself all the time. Hehe. (Sorry, couldn't help it.)

Anyway, that'll do for now... must leave thread alone... must leave thread alone... must go help myself.

hehe, I see

How it was worded was like a subtle attack, you know the type you can use in public and get away with.

A very liberal but well-meaning society. Kinda sums up liberalism in general. What's wrong with that ;)

I think the fact that lowering taxes by a few percentage points can result in significantly higher morale among your populace is a clear indication of GalCiv's conservative slant and voodoonomics ;p
Reply #7 Top
Hmmm, clearly the propaganda machine has been hard at work.
Yes,in GalCiv lowering taxes does seem to raise morale.I wonder if it's because it means that they are now only supporting 2 families instead of 3,those that actually have to pay taxes that is (:(

I made my resistance check not to get dragged into this sinkhole of an argument.

I attacked the evil Yor Collective the other day. Not only were their citizens were turned into automatons, crying for liberation, they also occupied a military/economy resource with their nasty starbases.

Who am I to avoid what is obviously a trap? I will just jump in with both feet with my oversimplified view of the extreme ends of American social idealogy.

On one side of the aisle, I get social liberals who chant their mantra: "Government is mother, government is father. It feeds you, raises you, pays you and buries you. Judging people on differences in lifestyle, religion, and culture is useless, since the government owns you all. You can do nothing without big government." On the other side, I get the social conservative: "Your family or your community will take care of you. If you got no ties like that, you can die on the side of the road in a ditch for all we care, unless you break our interpretation of the Bible. In that case, all bets are off and the theocrats will burn you at the stake as a heathen troublemaker."

Both extremes sound pretty scary, but I really get nightmares about a fusion of the two. Example: I get a national health insurance act that covers all Americans in their bedroom! (:(

Well said Gerakken.
If you would like to see part of your nightmare that is going on right now, check out the "Sunday blue law"that is already in effect(but not enforced yet)in 16 states. Both the libs, and conserv's support it.

THIS is why my empire is called the Republicrats! Seriusly though it sounds like an inside joke to me.Just look at the name, it's Sanderons sounds like a last name with a funky ending on it to me.

Of course we do, Vridian.

Not sure why you'd think otherwise, unless you believe what your wacky furriner media tells you. ;)

check out english.str.

there is a description for one race that they were descendents of the democratic party.

Ok, my turn.

The difference between Liberals and Conservatives:

A Liberal and a Conservative were walking down the street one day when they came across an unemployed man sitting on the curb. Seeing the man’s plight, the Conservative gave the man his card and told him to meet him tomorrow at his business where he would give him a job. He then went into his pocket, took out a twenty and gave it to the man. Needless to say, the Liberal was very impressed by this.

Just one block down the street, the pair came across another unemployed man. The Liberal decided that he was going to help this man just as his counterpart had on the previous block. He gave the man a card that had directions to the nearest welfare office. He then reached into the Conservative’s pocket, pulled out a twenty, gave the man five dollars, and kept fifteen for himself for administrative fees.

Go ahead and flame me. This was just too funny to not post. :D

Put American liberals in the Dutch political spectrum and they are considered conservatives. Put American conservatives in the Dutch political spectrum and they are considered extreme right (wouldn't survive one election). Everything is relative.

I guess the Dutch are Sanderons. No power so we mean you no harm.

I saw something even more political (IMO) once in this game.It was also very funny (again IMO).

A new minor civ popped up in a star that never existed before(hmmmm a cloaked star that suddenly became uncloaked??)Anyway I forget the name of the civ but when I read the short description of them it said something like this---

"The -insert civ name here-are the decendants of the long lost democratic party which left Earth in the early 21st century. We wish them well"

LOL

Then I got thinking--Did the dev team stick this in as a bust on the democrats?Did one republican on the team slip this in on the sly?
OTOH I was demonic evil at the time so I wondered if I were angelic would it have been the long lost GOP?in which case its a bust on the GOP as being evil.

Made me laugh and wonder at the same time--Good work Stardock!!!
LOL

If you consider American parties compared to german ones... well, from our perspective they're all the same, really. There's a much greater variety in the european political spectrum. For example: If the german Chancellor & his party pass a law (no matter what), the opposition (nearly) always has got exactly the other opinion. In US politics there are a lot of occasions (mostly the important ones) where the opposition will mostly agree to the President's viewpoint. I don't say this is negative, what I'm saying is that from our perspective, American parties often look much the same (and that is no lack of information on my behalf. Believe me,I'm interested in that stuff).

Phaedyme: Actually I'm relying heavily on YOUR media in my attempts to follow US policies (CNN, Washington Post, Wallstreet Journal, Financial Times US etc.). ;)

Ah, even we don't trust our media. They're a bunch of freakish muckrakers. Have you looked at the anchor's *hair?* No human brushes hair like that.

Anyway, quite a few Americans care about politics, and I mean beyond the voting stage.

GalCiv is full of radical right wing propaganda designed to confuse and frighten gamers. Things like NRA forever, better dead than red, let the hungry eat the homeless, etc. It's all over the place... NOT. ;)
