The Perfect RTS

Ok, I'm sure this forum hace a nice population of RTS lovers, so I'll ask, what would be your idea of "the perfect RTS"?

Mine would have to be on land, sorry GalCiv. I love playing in space but there is just something about having a navy, and army, and an air force. It would definitely have to incorporate three things from GalCiv: The UP, the great AI, and the ability to actually win by doing things other than war. But, this perfect game would have to take a few lessons from games like Civ 2 and 3. National borders - awesome. Cruise missles and nukes - splendid. Another idea I like from GalCiv is the idea of a starbase, I think our perfect game could have fotresses or naval platforms that could do a little of the same, although I would want them to be able to build units, something that would be nice for starbases to do too.

Well, if you would have seen previous threads, I think most of us like TBS much more (not to say: hate RTS ;) ). And most of us like space oriented strategy games.

I have to somewhat agree. I am not dissing GalCiv at all, I love it, and im going to play it in a second, but some things about being on land just makes it alot more fun. We have national boundaries, wide oceans, airforce, I just like it. I wish GalCiv could have us do things on our planets like we can in Civ3, but it would probably take a LONG time to do anything if it was added.

Well, I'd have to say that the best RTS ever made is still Total Annihilation. Too bad about Cavedog though.

Best RTS I ever played would have to be Starcraft.

Best TBS game would have to be Alpha Centauri. But I still love GalCiv, of course :)

My Idea of the perfect RTS:
A game where there is:
Custom.. Before you start you build an "Army" the units stats are completly up to you, but the cost is dependant upon features you add in. And the graphics change depending what you put in.

RTS I'd most like to see:
One thats built using a flight sim, so has realistic aerial combat. You could tell your planes to patrol etc. but you still have ground units, but air craft are highly effective. Have planes from WWI to Futuristic designs. And put in a squadron naming system, A bunch of generic names and colours. Maybe release more after game launch. So if your squadron gains notoriarity the enemy pilots are like "Oh no! Is that a Falcon I see on his wing!?" And you could get updates in the corner so YOU know what squadron has been killing what

Favorite RTS
Conquest: Frontier Wars

Ultimate TBS
One with many possibilities.. And politics. A game with characters that are sub empire but important. I have the games I want to play for Empire management, its been done, but Epic Managment.. Like somone becomes a hero, or starts a new army, maybe they'll settle down in your empire and start a church.. Maybe with that army they'll find an old abandoned fortress and rebel. And one that the computer isn't so great at controlling morale. I hardly ever see a game anymore where the computer is putting down revolutions, defections, etc.

TBS I want to see
I would like to see somthing based off 'Divus Ex' (from Three Fates .. somthing) Its an pnp rpg where your a god.

Favorite TBS: Master of Magic, Galciv in the space genre

Game I most want to see: I want to see a game thats a 'life' simulator, a disgustingly bloated game where you start as a kid, and accually play out the life.. like if you become a king, its a kingdom management game, Shop keeper a merchant game, etc. etc. each proffession its own well shaped ... nook .. Like the game was designed to go in that direction (Development time: 25 years heh)
