Iron Man

One of the land based civ games gave an "iron man" option, where the game was only saved on exit. This would seperate real warriors from those who win by reloading every time they stubbed a toe.

I find myself not cheating that way at all in this game. It fees so much more balanced and fair than any other game I've played- even when it's tough. If the AI beats me in this game it DESERVES to.

Yep, Dearmad, I agree. I also play compu chess games, and with most games you could also "cheat" by taking bakc moves, but what's the point doing that? If I loose a game I try to learn from that experience, to improve my strategy, my strenght. The next game I hope to win, but IF I loose again I change my strategy again. This way, IF the AI is challenging enough, you will have playing pleasure for a long time. NOW, if I can beat the Galciv AI all the time at the highest level, THAN it is either time to look for another challenge or DL the next update of the great game, which I'm sure will again be full of improvements for the AI, and therefore another challenge will be there. Not that I beat the game at the highest level yet, I have problems enough beating it at simple level ;) .

Yup, the problem with no saves is, what if you dont have 5 hours for a game..or you get a CTD.

I rarely save except when my gf drags me away or for sleep :

There are certainly some CTD bugs still in the game.

You want Ironman? Just don't save and reload. Since Culture is yet to be fixed, you cannot get Cultural victory easily if you are reloading all the time.

I am the type of guy who will re-load after a collosal blunder, but I find I really don't in this game. In GalCiv, if I get hosed it's not because of something I did last turn, it's because of something the AI did 15 turns ago and I didn't catch on. I'm not going to replay that far back, so I just chalk it up to a learning experience and start a new game.

Kavok: I think he means saving a game and redo one or more turns to avoid getting blasted, and then post it to the metaverse.

Nirvana_CN: ditto as for Kavok.

Sure this game needs a Save option, I myself play several games currently, in different environments. If I loose a game, so what? Back to the drawing board for the next challenge ;)

As much as i love this game, it does still have CTDs (i call them features, because they make me look at the clock and realize that it's time to go to bed :) )and that doesn't mix well with Ironman.

I'll often reset when too many of my Anti-matter missiles start dinking. Some randomness is good, but i think this combat system has a little _too_ much randomness to it.

While GalCiv is remarkably stable on my system, the CTDs would still be my biggest concern about an Iron Man option. You can't pull that one off until you can guarantee players that the game WON'T crash on them.

A different idea, though: add a timer into GalCiv that logs your longest single playing session in each game, and uploads that with your Metaverse data. Then those of us who play GalCiv for 8 hours straight would have something to brag/blush about. ;)

Wait a second... GalCiv's been out for several weeks and you still HAVE a girlfriend and friends?? I suppose you can't really get rid of your family, but I would have thought the gf and friends would long since have abandoned you to your digital imperalism. ;p

Yeah, I've had to fight "sickness" a lot of late. I have to be at work in an hour, but I REALLY want to play GalCiv this afternoon... money, or GalCiv. Money, or GalCiv... I can feel my resolve dissolving already. (:(
