A CHALLENGE, for anyone who wants to accept it

Build me starbases. I want to see a screenshot of a sector where every square not occupied by a star has a starbase in it.

The first one to post such a screenshot wins $1,000,000 bc from me as soon as GalCiv goes multiplayer. :) An extra $500,000 if your starbases are upgraded to the BIG starbases.

(I thought of trying for this myself, but damn I'm too lazy. And I have kids.)

Yin inspired me to write this with his "Starbase suggestions" thread. His ideas are all valid, so someone needs to do the above before the ability to "Starbase Spam" gets removed from the game. :)

Don't quit, Dearmad! Fire up that autosave and crank out those constructors! :)

I can do it, but I have no idea how to take a screenshot and post it and stuff. My planets crank out constructrs at a 1 per turn rate...

I think hitting your prtscrn button will put it in your clipboard, then you can paste it in mspaint and save it as a jpg

Heh...that's awesome.

You know, Dearmad, that seemed a little too quick and easy for you. Can you make them all Terror Stars? LOL

Oh, god, don't tempt me... that would take about 50 minutes though. I need to go do something outside- the sun is shining. :notsure:

Oh, don't get the idea I did this from scratch in 20 minutes... I loaded up a saved game where I had a stong empire already. :) I'm stupid but not stoopid.

Don't forget, I owe you $100,000,000 bc once the multiplayer expansion comes out. :)

jaustin1: Nice challenge!
Dearmad: Amazingly fast response!

Wow, that just looks plain ugly. I know I know I know you don't *have* to play the game this way, but that .jpg brings back terribly images of inifite cities in Civ or crawlers in SMAC.

I can live with it if it never gets changed. I'll do my best not to abuse the system. But I really do hope we see some changes here so .jpgs like that one are either impossible to do or much, much more difficult to make happen.

Nice work chaps!

Just for edification, it was done at bright ai levels...

Well, Dearmad, I just got my a.. kicked at beginner level. Back to the drawing board, I guess :)

Well, Dearmad, let me be the first to . . .

accuse you of cheating! That's right! There's no way I could do that, so there's no way you could either! The AI cheats! The AI cheats!

What's that? You're not an AI?

. . . .

Never mind.

"What's the crawler thing for SMAC"

The crawler thing is THE way to play SMAC. Basically it exploits the fact that resources collected outside a bases' worked aread (the obligatory 21 squares around the base site) do not count when calculating eco-damage. So even if you build hundreds of crawlers you do not get penalized for the extra resources that they bring in. Thus expert players will tend to have on or a couple of their bases set to building only!! crawlers which are then homed to different bases before being sent to a square to collect resources.

"Okay, i know about infinite cities, but what's the crawler thing for SMAC?"

In SMAC (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri), you had crawler units that could be tasked to terraform the land to make them more productive, or to raise/lower the land, etc. So if you made tons upon tons of these things, you might imagine how your territory could, in quick order, become overwhelmingly productive!

Again, do you call this a player's 'abuse' or do you call it clever strategy that maximizes the rules of the game?
