Unable to play (HELP!!!)

I hate this. I loved this game when it was on OS2, I just downloaded it, installed, tried to run it. And nothing. I see nothing, I get nothing. Flash Freezes. Ok, so I go into the directory manually, and load the .exe Still nothing. I get the "Wait" cursor for a moment, and in Task Manager, I see galciv.exe under processes, but I can't play. I've updated DirectX, Video, and Sound... my computer specs:

IBM Aptiva PIII 500 mghz
GeForce 4 Ti 64 mg RAM (Video)
384 mg RAM (System)
Sound Blaster Audigy card...

It should work... Oh yeah, I'm running Win XP.
And I downloaded the patch.
Someone fix this!

Can you send your GalCiv/debug.err file to both cbegle@stardock.com and scott@stardock.com. Hopefully it'll contain some info as to where things are going wrong. Thanks! :)

I cannot locate this file. Be more specific. I have C:/Strategy First/Galactic Civilizations/
No
/GalCiv
and I did a search of my computer, no debug.err

More help!!!

should be in main directory off your GalCiv directory, whatever you called that- so if it's in: c:\galactic civilizations\ then the debug.err should be right there. Same place the executable is located.

The file is not there. Is it possible that its made once the game runs? Cause according processes its running, but nothings happening, so technically, it hasn't 'run' yet, perhaps?
I'm going to kick something

What was the size of the galciv_setup.exe file? I'm wondering that maybe you didn't get the full file or maybe the download was corrupted. You and I have pratically the exact same computer hardware and software OS so I dont see any problems there.....

I had a similar problem today, galciv.exe was in process list but didn't get anything else. Happened when I uninstalled sdcentral - so I would propose, install or re-install sdcentral (latest version) and reboot. That did it for me. I'm not sure if the game needs sdcentral or one of the files that comes with the sdcentral installation.
