No Tutorial?

I wish this game had a tutorial to get us started. I'm an experienced computer gamer (20 years now) but for me a manual which is just a reference for the various screens is not enough.

Now I have to try to get my 21 year old son to find time to play the game so he can show me.

Just dive in, I felt the same way but the game mechanics are pretty simple, it's the strategy that gets complex. Go to the start menu entry for the game and load the survivor guide and print that out then go here

and get an updated manual. It has the abilities from the bonus pack and some more manual updates, it's also quick to print because it doesn't have a background like the original .pdf.

Remember at the beginning it's about making colony ships and getting your survey ship out to all the anomalies and pick those up. Start in the smallest galaxy with one opponent on the dumbest setting till you get the hang of things. Any small things you don't understand can be found on the forums here.

I moved my ships around a bit, but now they won't even move. It says 2/2 moves, but they don't move.

Oh well, it's good to know that at some future date I'll be able to use the product they sold me today. :)

The back of the manual was got me off to a pretty good start. The section called "Basic Walkthrough". Just Remember you have to borrow a lot of money to get a decent start. The lease is your best friend.

I guess the Basic Walkthrough just isn't basic enough for me.

It just says, for example, to send you colony ship out etc. and that I do just fine. But it says to build/buy more colony ships. I've bought three and they show on the starship list but I can not figure out how to tell them to move. Pressing Tab or the Find button does not select them, nor does clicking on them in the starship list.

All the help sources mentioned deal with opening screens and broad strategy, but not the details which I apparently need.

Doh!

Thanks

I wish they'd mentioned that in the manual for the intuitively impaired like me.

You can also doubleclick the little ship icon in the planet view, and with the latest update, I hear, you have the option to autolaunch ships.
