new Multimedia update v.1.00.6 does it download all 366 MB over AGAIN?

Actually the update is just about 900KBs....

i have the same problem... and i cant even put files manually to temp dir, where it is being downloaded if i put files there, SDC just replace them with the same name and size... and i have 3KB/s download speed. oh well. no big problem for me, i can leave it for night, but for them is a lot of bandwitch lost... anyways, good work again with new update so soon but please do something with this problem, it has been around from the launch of the game (or maybe even longer i dunno )

I'm having to get the full 366 MB just to get the new one. Sorry gang. But that's just what it is doing. Coming across pretty fast for me, thank goodness.

And the installation FAILED. SDC wants to do it again. Looks. Whee!

Multimedia pack continues to fail to install. How interested. It is only pullind down a short bit, after its first 378 Meg download. But it fails in the installation with the error condition : Success. Gotta love that.

Unease keeps failing. Is that the new bit?

I had similar problems with SDC and updating the main GalCiv component... and I think my problems stemmed either from installing the bonus pack myself (downloading the standalone installer instead of using SDC) or from installing GalCiv before SDC.

Anyway, after getting fed up with it trying to download hundreds of megs, I uninstalled GalCiv + Bonus Pack, reinstalled just the basic GalCiv, and got the bonus pack via SDC. Haven't had a problem with it since (just updated the multimedia and bonus pack files to the most recent versions, and it took only a few seconds over my dialup, so they couldn't have been that big).

Not the best solution to the problem, but if all else fails you could try it.

Even though I have a pretty good broadband connection, I was still a tad shocked to see that there was a 350+ MB update file. It has been downloading for twenty minutes now with thirty more to go. I congratulate Brad and the crew for their diligence with the regular updates.

I will quite POed if there is nothing new in the file or it fails to install like mentioned in previous posts.

It's installed everything else just fine, as far as I can tell.

I've deleted all it's music filed in the temp stuff. Crossing my fingers and doing it again...

Music fails. Unease.mp_ fails and constantly. Anyone else got this problem?

What is actually on this multimedia update?

Well I fixed my problem of it showing these HUGE sizes for these updates that should be small. I uninstalled GalCiv and reinstalled it. I kept SDC installed though....seems it will show the small updates only if SDC is installed first.

I just did the same uninstall/reinstall and now Stardock shows only the incremental files.

Great system once one gets the proper install order correct.

i don't think SDC needs to be installed first. I installed SDC after GalCiv and everything worked out fine (no long downloads, install problems, whatever). I dl'ed the bonuspak through SDC and had no problems, so maybe SDC doesn't detect the Bonuspak that is dl'ed from the website.

Brad, or whoever works on SDC, you might wanna look here for the answer.

It may be that the people that are downloading all 30MB have archived Galciv...? I think I read a post somewhere that this is what it's supposed to do if you have archived it.

Problem (and my solution)

Used the update icon beside the Game title on the list in the upper right corner. Got a download error message - failed.

Did the same thing again with the same result but this time I kept my eye on the % downloaded field and noticed that it climbed past 100% to 150+%.

One more try exactly the same method. . .exactly the same result.
(one of the early signs of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and hoping for different results)

Time for some sanity.

Tried the update by using the update button in the lower left part of the screen. SUCCESS.

Used that method for all the other updates (mm, bonus pak, windowed ver and pdf manual) which all worked.

Don't know why this worked, just thought I'd pass it along.

I also finally give up and re-installed GalCiv. I was then able to obtain all the updates except the main GalCiv 1.0.029 to 1.2.040 (1.2 MB). After quite a few tries (I almost always use the lower left button) and failures it did work. So be persistant and keep trying... you will be successful

FYI: Brad isn't part of the SDC team. He's part of the GalCiv team.

I, too, have had no luck getting the multimedia updated, with the same error message:

Extract File: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\Mod_Multimedia\Music\Unease.mp_
Result: Failed (deleted file)
Installation aborted (failed)

I have tried the "lower left corner" update button to no avail. The other updates seem to load fine.

Perhaps the huge size of the download (366megs) has scared others off so that there isn't as much experience with this download?

Also, same question as on another post: now that the update failed, do I need to delete it or uninstall what I have downloaded? I sure hope not; it takes forever even over DSL.

Re: my download problems...

I tried deleting GC and reloading it, leaving Stardock in place. That did the trick. Stardock doesn't try to download the huge update, and the whole process took just a couple of seconds.

I don't recall seeing "load Stardock first" in the documentation; probably should be there, though.

I also got the "Installation aborted (no updated files found)" in my gc1_Multimedia.log file as reported by Veilel Blax, post #23. I used to have v1.0.004 downloaded and installed March 26, now I've got v1.0.006, but no files were updated. Is this correct?
