The Metaverse RAG

All the news that is fit to print and some that is not.

Technician’s new milestones
The Technician crushed the 4 million mark in the month of January with a paltry score of 4017051 points. He has an incredible 1005 games as of this date.

There is no truth to the rumor that our beloved Technician is really a YOR machine who’s sole purpose is to submit 3-4 games per day to the Metaverse and run one of the top empires. An anonymous source from the Guardian Empire has told this reporter that they have had Technician secretly tested and have proven that Technician is indeed 100% human although his brain waves were unlike any humans known to them.

The Quest for 1st
First place has been decided. When the Rag last reported, The Foundation had closed to the Guardians to within only (sarcasm on) 10 million points. This has changed. During the last 3 months the Guardians have been moving away at a rapid pace and the gap is now over 16 million points and still widening.
The Guardians are submitting 1.7 games to every 1 game that the Foundation submits. This reporter wonders if any Empire is capable of catching these Guardians.

Empire activity dropping?
There is some evidence that empire activity is mostly steady despite many retirements. Even though Galciv is approaching 2 years old it is still enjoying a steady influx of new players. Perhaps the news about the impeding beta release of Galciv 2 has newer players interested in Galciv 1.
Further proof that Galciv is still very active, in some empires there has been a resurgence of activity. Empires that are enjoying this resurgance are the Evil Empire, Star Federation, European Alliance and the Canadian Star Federation. The Foundation and the Guardians have kept up a consistent number of active players.

The Millionaires club
There are now 17 players with over a million points with 2 of these players over 2 million and 1 over 4 million. Congratulations to the following millionaires:
Technician 4017051
Exalted Druid (Active) 2640458
Greldon (Retired) 2080925
ricbayer 1908292
Chipperoo 1775469
Weyrleader 1735506

Movers and Shakers
Technician What more can be said about this guy? He keeps dragging the bar higher and higher.
Exalted Druid is closing in on the elusive 3 million mark. Can he get to it before Galciv 2 comes out? He is still several months away and closer to the 3 million than any other player.
ricbayer is very close to the 2 million mark. Less than 92,000 points to go.
Chipperoo is solidly in 5th position and working hard to get to that 2 million sweet spot.
PassingBye has astounded this reporter by climbing the ranks of the Metaverse at an extremely fast rate. He is in 7th position just below his former self Weyrleader. Talk about split personality. :)

Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords
The sequal to Galciv should be ready for beta testing sometime in March. Already there has been several professional previews of the game. Anyone who pre-buys Galciv 2 will be able to download and play the beta. Head on over to www.galciv2.com for more information and screen shots. While you are there do not forget to check out the developers journals and other forums of interest.

The Final Word
Empires are fun, if you are not part of an Empire you should consider joining one of the many that exist. Even start your own. If you decide that you do not want to join an empire please do not hesitate to drop by and chat. The empires are really just groups of people sharing common interests. You will find that there are many interesting and likable people here willing to talk about almost anything.

Thanks for the info! :) Looks like a lot of folks are having a great time! But some questions (stupid ones):

1st - I love the single player mode of most games, especially that of the Space 4X sort - but is there an online multiplayer component to GC/AP (I don't recall at the moment)? If not, then what's this "Empires" thing about?

2nd - Do you have an idea about how many copies of the game have sold verses estimates of those still playing? I would really like to see StarDock do well in profits related to Space 4X game sales so that we can see more versions, new editions, etc.

3rd - Will the coming version be radically different from what we now know as GC and AP? And will there still be some modding capability? Map making ability? Ship graphic design ability (perhaps with 3rd party utilities - I would love to be able to import some of my ship graphic MDLs into the new version if compatable)?

The multiplayer component is the Metaverse. No direct confrontation, only a ladder (with some specific calulation) based on submitted games
And for empire, look here http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=Ge

Great job Newfy, and perfect timing as TGNN seems to be on hiatus. Can we look forward to future installments? :)
